I'm Kenyan. The majority of Somalis (our neighbors) are not light-skinned like you cherry-picked for this video. Some are light but most are medium to dark brown and blend in color with neighboring East Africans in Kenya. But they have different hair textures (3a to 4c), though they're not related to Arabs (J haplogroups) except for religion. Somalis carry the exclusive African E haplogroup (E3b1) and are genetically closer to Bantus (E3a) both related to Natufians who were Africans (E1b1).

If I were the Kenyans I wouldn't claim these people but instead label them as outsiders and Arabs. Somalia is a really weak nation. The Kenyans could take advantage of this and conquer half their country and replace them with their own or deport them. Africans don't need Somalis. Neither would an Arab touch not them with a 10 m pole. Stop trying to claim everyone. Instead try to take advantage of them instead of them taking advantage of you by coming into your country.

It's not that Western racial classification doesn't mean anything to Somalis, infact the opposite is the case. The Somalis vehemently resist being classified as black because it helps them perpetuate the myth that they're unrelated to other blacks. The Somalis painstakingly try to make the claim that they're more related to Arabs and Europeans than they're related to other black people, and even a cursory examination of the dna evidence reveals this to be untrue. Yet they persist with the narrative looking credible to neither their black siblings nor the non Africans they try so hard to assimilate with. Whats funny is the Somalis are not really as different even phenotypically as they think they are. For example, amongst us in west Africa, the Bantus as they call us, and the specific subgroup the Somalis try the hardest to dissociate with, there are tens of thousands of folks amongst us who have the precise Somali phenotype. They just happen to show up randomly accross the population rather than predominantly in one ethnicity as the Somalis. Infact, amongst the Fulani's here in West Africa, there are whole subgroups of that ethnicity which look more 'somali' phenotypicly than most Somali's. Oh, by the way, even us west Africans aren't a monolith by any chance. It's funny because, I'm igbo from Nigeria and less than 3% of us are jet black. About 30% of us are light skinned, abd something like 10% of us have skin complexions comparable to thar of present day north Africans, or lighter. Now, imagine us claiming not to be blacks because we're lighter phenotypicly than our neighbors. The fact of the matter is. Somalis are negroid regardless of their phynotype or how they feel about it.

The latest studies on the Somali population let us know that, 'Genome-wide analyses disclose the distinctive HLA architecture and the pharmacogenetic landscape of the Somali population' - 2020 Using principal component analysis it showed that approximately 60% of Somali ancestry is East African and 40% Western Eurasian. 'Positive Selection in Admixed Populations from Ethiopia' - 2020 119 whole genomes of Ethiopian populations (Amhara, Oromo, Somali, Wolayta and Gumuz) were studied to investigate the modes of positive selection in the region. As part of the research, the proportion of West Asian ancestry was measured, and it showed that this component in Somalis was averaged at 44%. These values were said to be largely in agreement with previous estimates.

I'm not Black or white, color isn't my identity. There is single group of people called African in Africa or any where else. I'm Ethnic Somali, Arab and Bantu are relatives. The narrative of identitifying people base on the color originates from European colonialst and Somalia spent a great deal of wealth and blood to discredit them.

The Ogaden war in 1977 split Somalia into two countries, resulting in warlords, pirates, Al Shabaab, and now five heads of state at the moment. I hate to be that guy but there are in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA the richest country in the world of coarse they will be a rich and successfull if you count their achievements its like counting the Latino Americans achievements they will be as you said in your comment the riches country in Latin America and its the same for Arab Americans Jewish Americans Asian Americans Indian Americans etc u get me but if African Countries snap out of corruption and greed and decided now its time to industralise their country , African countries will be unstoppable because they have all the ingredience for success ( man power, natural resources, location etc )

Sadly, for most uneducated people, black means West African type, plus they seem to think a so-called sub Saharan African is the only black African. not knowing the Sahara wasn't always a desert. as for Somali, they can call themselves whenever they want. However, once they step into the west, they'll find out very quickly what they aren't in the eyes of others however, thanks to a Somali , I ve dropped the word black for African on these topics instead. as black has racist connotations

The reason why most westerners identify black people as West Africans it's because of the 400 years Atlantic slave trade plus people of west African descent and those who are ready in the America were the first Blacks to have an identity in the West Somali only started coming to the west in the late 1980s

As a Somali living in the west. We are very successful and we still create a Somali community wherever we go. We have our own malls and halal food, and stores with same food from back home. As for discrimination Somalis are too proud. In Minnesota they have learned that disrespecting one Somali means you disrespect all. For most part we don’t really face any oppression here in the US and we do our own thing without caring too much about others. Others do their own thing without caring about Somalis too much.

Somalis are black. I mean most of them are literally blacker than me that I see and im African American. but I think it’s sad we’ve all been assimilated. They got assimilated to Arab while we’ve been forced into whiteness. Look at what we “consider beautiful” it’s light brown skin with long straight hair and if it’s curly it’s European curly not our natural curls. I wish we could just be ourselves but stuck up to their standards. Arabs and white hate us and have huge anti blackness within their communities yet colonize and did terrible things to us Africans/people of Sub Saharan ancestry. We all know Arabs enslaved Africans and took them to North Africa, Middle East, and India. I do think there was mixing no doubt but these people are literally black with hijabs on.
