Well concerning Joe & it being an impossible situation and all, wouldn’t it be in Brad’s best interests to protect Joe from being in a situation where he is without a staff as Rookie Coach of a Contending Team…? I’m not sure that we’re allocating responsibility appropriately…! Joe’s the scapegoat for the one who hired him without experience to an impossible situation. Sounds like he was intentionally set up for failure…!!!

They aren’t giving Celtics former coach and GM, Brad Stevens enough credit. That guy was not afraid to pull the trigger on the KP trade even though the players included changed and KP hasn’t been consistently healthy. He also jumped in quickly to close the Holiday trade while other teams that would have liked him on their roster appeared to be still trying to figure it out . The early results of those two moves look promising, although only time will tell.

Brad (&Zarren) have been awesome from the first week in charge. Adding Horford, White, KP, Jrue are all excellent moves. Punting Kemba, Tristan Thompson, Fournier, Langford, Nesmith has also been excellent. Brad has been the best GM in the NBA for 2yrs now. IME tripped them up last season but this team is poised for a 6yr run with the talent, age and contracts lined up.

Not gonna overreact to preseason, but I completely underrated the Porzingis addition. That lineup with Jrue, White, Tatum, Brown, and KP, is literally unguardable. Porzingis' health is the most overrated "problem" in the NBA. ALL THREE of the players the C's traded are big-time injury/missed time risks, including Marcus Smart, who only averaged 6 games a season better than Porzingis the past 4 years.
@bmcfonzie
@bmcfonzie 9 ай бұрын
The issue is that the Celtics effectively traded four of their top eight guys, and got only two back. You mentioned Smart, but the Celtics also traded Brogdon, and only got Holliday to replace the two at PG. You can look at it similarly for Porzingis replacing Rob and Grant. That's why the health of those remaining is more important than it was when their depth was better. Maybe you think Pritchard/Hauser/Kornet/etc. will step up this season to fill the void, but the Celtics only have six guys with real playoff experience the way it stands now, so you can't take it for granted.
@mctaguer
@mctaguer 9 ай бұрын
@@bmcfonzieSure, and that's true, but that's NOT why most people keep blathering about K's health as if it's 2018. They're not analyzing it on that level, not even close. It's just an easy punchline. And KP (and Holiday) is not actually replacing an amalgam of those guys, not in reality (and Grant was gone regardless of these trades. This is obvious). They are representing a capability, on court, that no combo of those guys produced. I agree--I think they need KP to be healthy for about 60-65 games this season, and obviously in the playoffs. My point is, that's not so tall an order as people are making it out to be.

I remember always wondering why Celtics Twitter universally hated Bill Simmons and now it makes sense...no way in hell did this man just say he'd take Mikal Bridges over Jaylen Brown based on a 27 game sample in which Mikal became a classic good stats bad team guy where he put up good scoring numbers (still not better than JB over that stretch) and his defense fell off tremendously because he's a classic 3&D guy whose on great on defense because that's where most of his energy goes to but the minute you ask him to score his defense falls off. We saw Bridges as the best guy absolutely FOLD in the playoffs and get swept, whereas JB as a 2nd year guy was the best player on the Celtics in the playoffs and took them to the game 7 of the ECF against LeBron. Then we've seen JB be the absolute best player on the Celtics where Tatum couldn't even buy a bucket and JB won 2 games against the Warriors.

I hear you, but Rob was never healthy and it just got worse after 2022. He would have only been able to play 20-25 minutes in the playoffs, if healthy, and is actually more injury prone than Porzingis now, in my opinion. Rob also couldn't shoot. Porzingis opens up the low post option and can stretch the floor better than Horford. He also hasn't ever played on a good defense in which he doesn't have to play under the rim constantly and there's a chance he might be entering his prime. We may see the best season of his career during year one in Boston. As far as the Bucks are concerned, you might be right, but Milwaukee's perimeter defense, outside of Giannis and maybe Crowder at times, is going to be very vulnerable, once again in my opinion. They might end up winning a lot of close, high scoring games against quality teams this season, but if healthy, I would still take Boston over the Bucks in the playoffs because I think the Milwaukee is legitimately going to have more defensive concerns in that series than the Celtics are. Just my two cents.

Extremely risky relying on Porzingis to play a role that he loathed in Dallas. Except it's worse because at least in Dallas he was the second scoring option. The absolute best case scenario for him is being the 3rd scoring option and that's only if Holiday takes a step back as a scorer. Then there is his health.
@Jonteponte71
@Jonteponte71 9 ай бұрын
In this starting five. Holiday will not have to score unless no one else has it going. And sometimes JB will not have a great night and KP can step up. So at least a third option on most nights. And as he has said himself. It helps to be on a winning team. I understand why he didn't like the situation in Dallas. Luka never stops hogging the ball and he was relegated to standing in the corner as a spot up shooter. In this offence, at least in the preseason, the ball moves around and he is sometimes featured in it.

This is wayyy different than Dallas. His role was literally “sit in the corner and wait for Luka to pass the ball”. He actually is involved in the offense with Boston. The health is always gonna be an issue. But offensively he will absolutely help them

Boston's offense is completely different than Dallas's. Boston actually moves the ball, whereas everyone just stands and watches Luka dribble for 20 seconds. Not the same at all.

Absolutely not lol, Celtic fans are delusional right now. The only way Boston can compete with the Bucks is if A: Jrue’s offense translates in the playoffs, which it hasn’t for many years, B: Porzingis is healthy, and C: Porzingis is happy going back to his Dallas role, essentially “shut up & stand in the corner, & play defense.” The chances of all three of those happening are low, & even then that would only enable them to compete.
@williamharris7849

Delusional about what? That they're better this year than in the past couple of years when they've been at least a top 4 team? The spacing and shooting threats around Jrue in Boston should make it easier for him offensively compared to Milwaukee. They don't want Porzingis to just stand in the corner. Stagnant offense while watching Tatum and Brown drive a set defense is not what they want. An involved and mobile White, Holiday, and Porzingis is what's needed.
@Cotswolds1913

@@williamharris7849 If Jrue’s offense drops in the playoffs as it does basically every year, you’re really not any better than last year’s roster. And that’s even IF you have a committed Porzingis.

@@williamharris7849 The main thing to improve you is just more burn for Derrick White, but that was something available to your previous roster as well, and frankly I really like Brogdon’s offense. @@Cotswolds1913 Jrue was asked to do way too much, especially last year due to the injuries. That shouldn't be a problem in Boston. And as for Porzingis buying in, a lot of guys tend to buy in when they come to Boston(don't mention Kyrie).

@@Cotswolds1913 Grant was really not that good of a defender. Couldn't stay in front of anybody. A healthy Timelord is someone to miss but we never really had that.
