The Cubs should be in the window every year since they are a big market club with the prospect capital and budget to field a competitive team with depth. But if there is a window, then this is the year because the division is weak and Jed should have taken advantage of that and made more moves to improve the roster during the offseason. Now they are fielding a team struggling to score runs or even hit the ball out of the infield because the team lacks any elite bats. The starting pitching has been fantastic so not having the hitting is like a wasted opportunity to take the division.

I agree. Money should = winning. But careless spending can be more hurtful than anything. We saw it with the Mets last year.

I might be wrong, but I believe Hendricks is a few weeks away from reaching 10 years service time and getting a pension. I think it is the right thing to do for the Cubs to let him get to that, given everything he has done for the franchise. After that though I think they should do the Heyward treatment where they set him down for the season and he sticks around in the clubhouse.

It was helpful last time having the #2 and #4 pick to find those pillar pieces like KB and Schwarber(when there were no tank rules) and also Cub had Cashner already on team to be in position to acquire Rizzo... these things are not in place this time around as they try and build a new team again

@@SetupManCubs it sure was..... and Theo and Jed had to figure out a new way to totally rebuild a team bec MLB changed the bonus payment rules for 'slotting' draft picks and the amounts for international players...and they did a good job using this method to load up the Cub team w all these sign and trade deadline 'flips' and making sure they got those 2 super high draft picks...

Now Jed and Carter have taken the path of building a strong, young starting rotation.. but they will have to decide soon if they want to keep going high floor/middling team w position players and pen or just give in and play all the young guys and do what Tampa does until a few really break out...

These kind of remarks on being ok with throwing a season away and coping with this loser mentality are why Tom Ricketts loves Jed Hoyer and his small market ways. He can milk fans dry with no need to field a truly competitive team. All he sells you are prospects but he's too chickenshit to call them up.
