Lots of lessons to be leaned from this submission. Running triple glassy shadows is fun but very unforgiving if you make mistakes.

QOTD: Team building!! I'd say I've mastered the mechanics of GBL, but my disinterest in team building (and refusal to use boring meta teams) is what keeps from hitting legend
@Jollyelfmanwithafamily692 ай бұрын
Agreed

I love building off meta/spice in Catch cups. I hit legend this past season in catch cup with U-Fisk, Shadow Skarm, Shadow Pidgeot. If you like going off meta, prep for Catch cup and some of the specialty GL cups. It’s where some of the more fun Pokemon can shine. (I totally feel you on the Meta drag)

Loads of people don't bother with this skill at all & you'll see it when you face loads of the same few teams that have been showcased by content creators. Rather than people learning how to team build properly & come up with their own unique lines, they'll just use what others have already put together.

QOTD what I struggle with the most is team reading, like predicting what my opponent has in the back. I can guess obvious teams like Basti, Victree, and Wiggly, but a lot of the times if I had read a team better I would've come out on top. I often fall victim to ABB teams a lot cause often they'll have a lead win, but swap out halfway through the lead anyways, and it's not until after the battle I realize they were trying to lure out my fighter or something.

QOTD: Energy management. I'm seeing more and more trainers at lower elo throwing on good timing, or at least understanding the importance of it. But I feel like energy management is still something a lot of lower elo trainers aren't thinking about as much. I know, for me, this was the thing that really helped me get to the next level once I got the hang of move timing.

QOTD: I’ve always said playing with and in the right mindset is so underrated and hardly talked about. Thinking there’s an algorithm, playing tilted, playing when you’re stressed or distracted can be detrimental and tough to make good decisions and keep focused. Don’t get me wrong I fall victim to this but lately really trying to apply this. Also I think Dragon Breath would be an amazing upgrade for Salamence. With it being so frail having a three turn fast move is not doing it any favors. I’m a big fan of Sally so thanks for the submitter and yourself for showcasing! 🍻

Qotd:-Energy management charge move timing I said cm timing cuz I've seen people throwing on bad timing It could be maybe opp is bozo or its myself being clever af to not throw on cmp But energy management deff not all players learn it

Qotd: fast move timing. I'll add, that with the amount of frame drops I've been experiencing lately, it makes it almost impossible to properly time your moves at times.

QOTD: Simply counting the opponents fast moves. I know because I myself dont do this a lot of the time even if I really should, if you always know how much energy the opponent has it makes the battles much easier

QOTD I’d be a lot better off if I always checked the sims for my team into some of the meta mons, sometimes I’ve checked my safe swap vs the meta and it can help a lot knowing when you need to shield or if you can just get by sacrificing the safe swap
@CallumOnToast2 ай бұрын
This is something I'm guilty of. When building a new team every other day I often don't really look at what my team can or can't beat & especially how those matchups would play out in certain shield scenarios. For me it probably matters less as it's just to use for 25 battles before I move on to the next showcase, but it's still worthwhile.

Just a note, I believe that the lag could be due to this trainer having an autocatcher running while battling. This is a known issue/bug, easy to fix by disconnecting it before playing.

QOTD: gameplay IQ/game awareness. For those who think PoGo is a tap tap luck based game…it’s not. Some mons work because of their extreme bulk or fast move pressure, but most mons can’t play like that. Playing well and getting wins typically comes down to being aware of all the game mechanics: switch timer, timing/counts, shielding decisions based off your mon’s survivability, etc. Team reading/team building also largely plays into making smart in-battle decisions. I’ve won/lost many battles off of understanding/misreading what the backline was.

QOTD team building. So many people either run teams that simply dont make sense,teams they dont understand,often from a youtuber and when they do find a good team they give up on it due to a hard counter set or even a couple games. Also people fail to understand that different teams will do well at different elo ratings

QOTD: For me it's move counts (to be more precisely, knowing exactly when Pokémon xy is at move z). This knowledge opens up so many advanced plays. Like Cmp'ing, catches, how much can i overfarm. Not knowing or willing to learn the counts (5 - 5 - 4 etc.) is the main reason why I won't make it to expert or legend.
@Cade0nT0ast2 ай бұрын
QOTD: move counting. Honestly easy to memorise how many turns it will take for a meta pokemon to get to their move which will let you catch moves easier. Gotta anticipate tho but it comes easy to me :)

QOTD: This applies to even the leaderboard players as well. Being unpredictable when throwing so people can't catch your moves easily or overfarming considerably so that people get thrown off on your counts and end up having to give up a shield unnecessarily.
@msgdeletdbymod44712 ай бұрын
Even if it means not throwing in optimal timing, sometimes it's good to throw earlier or later just to stop people from catching your moves.
@CallumOnToast2 ай бұрын
Yeah this is actually something I often don't consider. I'm always trying to throw at the most optimal time in terms of giving away as few free turns as possible, but sometimes throwing sooner can actually grab a shield before I myself have to use a shield. Forcing your opponent to make the first important decision can be a useful thing.

I’m surprised you showcased this Callum. I mean not hating on the bad calls and charge move timing, this player is learning, but the massive lag and delays in the gameplay is unbearable and would make me quit playing lol. Watching that shadow Dragonaire destroy Usaring’s HP in the blink of an eye while only getting like 3 shadow claws in return because of lag would make me force close and restart my phone from frustration.

Yeah I've had submissions similar to this in the past but just not showcased them. I don't really understand why someone would submit something like this unless they're wanting me to sort of breakdown what went wrong & how they can improve (which is a perfectly fine reason, but if not stated, just seems like an odd submission). Usually people will submit battles they're really proud of & if they make lots of glaring errors might just cut those specific battles out.
