@@mananahuja4656 When buying a domain, you'd notice something called "ICANN Fee", so when purchasing a domain you pay them a fee, hence most people that buy domains know about them. DNS is basically something most people have to know about, things got advanced and now there's DoH to protect you from a hacker tampering the connection between the dns provider and you in between. (as a matter of fact its included in CBSE computer science) You can start by buying a VPS maybe? It all started for me by making a minecraft server on an ubuntu server, then it went to a webserver and so on...and i was a mac user, so the terminal of ubuntu and macos were just similar and syntaxes for cli commands are almost same that it was easy to navigate. If you are a windows user, WSL is great to get exposure, since you'd get spoilt if you installed the ubuntu with desktop environment.

ICANN’s signature is like a notary’s stamp. Or more specifically, there’s a bunch of notaries who can all stamp things, but their legitimacy is proven by a license stamped by ICANN itself. If you find something notarized by someone who themselves is licensed by someone who themselves… following the chain down to the root signer, if the root isn’t ICANN, it isn’t legit. If the root is ICANN, then it is.

The people in the ceremony are wearing masks and based on what you said, I believe this is footage from somewhere around June 2022, right? So are they wearing masks for privacy reasons? Or as a part of COVID precautions? Cuz I feel around that time, COVID was long forgotten. I’m just curious :D Also, watched the Waveform episode for this story as well ;)

The key signing ceremonies are always interesting especially from a cyber security perspective. They literally allow for not a single vulnerability in this situation down to the computer and OS they use for the key signing which is incredible. It's true that there's seven authorities over DNS and if they all shut down at the same time the internet will kinda go down. However your ISP all the way down to your personal device has some form of DNS cache on it which will keep you online for quite a while even without these servers. You can even run your own DNS database at home for yourself if you want to.

Loving your video. Thank you very much for looking to this. However, I'm a bit "ehhh?" on the terminology in this video, since I would think the right term to use for something that help mitigate DNS Cache Poisoning would be DNSSEC instead? Public key cryptography is just a name of cryptographic system that use a pair of key - one key that you need to keep secret (private key) and another key where you gives our to other people (public key). Using some kind of algorithms, it allows you to use a public key to verify that something has been correctly signed by the right private key, and also allowing you to use private key to verify that something has been correctly signed by a public key. DNSSEC uses public key cryptography and a chain of trust, but there're other things that uses this as well - SSH, GPG, TLS Certificate, etc. Hence, for this DNS-related usage, using the term "public key cryptography" felt a bit too broad for me, but that might be just how I felt 😄. Again, thank you very much for looking into this and get me to know about the key signing ceremony for the root zone.

Each website has a number similar to a phone number, but you can't call someone just with their name, you need their phone number. DNS let's you translate this name to a number. DNS can be hacked to have the wrong number, so they make sure that if you want to change the number without the owners approval, you need to eventually use their keys. The keys are litteraly in a safe, in a cage, in a building, in a restricted area
