I agree that the cost of replacing the Command Unit in order to get Bluetooth connection to your phone against using a Bluetooth receiver like you have is a no brainer. I did the same as you and the Bluetooth receiver allows me to answer the phone etc perfectly… I tend not to have my music on as I prefer the ‘music’ of the 5.0L V8 lol 😆

I use an Avantree Visor BT unit that has excellent hands free sound in my SL. I want to keep everything stock as the car is in perfect nick. The avantree FM xmits to the Stereo. I also use a Garmin Drivesmart 65 mounted into the CD slot which also connects to the Garmin drive app function, and allows the display of emailand texts. and displaying the track and ID of the current track. The volume works on the wheel and radio. The whining you are hearing is simply shite circutry . The 2nd one has degree better filtering.

i have a 2007 R230 and want to keep it stock as burning cds for the cd changer is still fine by me with itunes. But i will try this too as this is easily affordable to try and will just expand my musical experience with the bose speaker options this vehicle had from factory.

In my 2003 SL500, there is a tiny 3.5mm headphone jack inside the glove box on the left hand side. Hard to see. On the head unit, select Service mode then AUX to enable that 3.5mm input port. I use a cheap bluetooth adapter I bought on Amazon that plugs straight into that port and charges via USB (Holds a 12 hour charge). Connected via bluetooth to my android phone, it works and sounds terrific! Volume fully adjustable on head unit or phone or the 3.5mm bluetooth adapter. (Anker Soundsync A3352 was $33.00USD) Needless to say, i just discovered that port recently. And I've owned the R230 what seems like forever...lol. btw, i plan to install a new BCM (battery control unit) just to be on the safe side given the age of the current BCM.

I got one from Argos when I picked my 350 r230 from London, did the job all the way back to Edinburgh, but that skip track feature is nice! Keep up the good work, and your channel definitely helped me make up my mind about getting the car!

Have you thought about fitting the mr12v unit which would mean you could directly stream your phone into the optical link to the CD magazine. (You lose the CD changer but that's probably not a big deal.)

But are you satisfied with the Oria device sound quality? This is a huge issue with pre-2009 R230's.
