Him Maxwell and Erykah Badu invented a whole new genre called neo soul and that was one of the albums that led to its creation. As someone who listens to all genres of music (country is probably my weakest genre, but that's in comparison to those I know who really listens to the genre. I know a line dance or two lol) I think this list is pretty solid. The problem with a list like this is that a majority of people will be biased because a majority of people only listen to 1-3 genres of music. My music tastes are so schizophrenic that a playlist would be separated by mood and tempo before it's separated by genre 🤣🤣 My only issue with this list is the lack of clarity on what they're using to measure the rankings.

If you do not listen to all genres of music then you wouldn't understand this list. Its all subjective regardless. There was so much great music before any of us was born and more after we were born . You have to tap in to other music besides r&b and hip hop. I grew up on hip hop but listen to everything and I truly believe you are missing out if you don't.

Kraftwerk's songs were technically electronic but they had huge hits in the 80's that were heavily played by hip hop and R&B radio. Turbo does a hugely famous dance in the movie Breakin to their song Tour de France. They can't al be top 10 when your dealing with multiple genres over a period of 50 years lol.

I don’t think this list is in a particular list in the sense of “worse to best”, but a general collective of music from a much broader collection of genres, and even then it’s not a list, because a hundred is very small in the collection of music. Their are bigger list out there that have been made, series that have played out in the past on vh1,publishers that print musical mags, etc.

Feeling small musically is such an open and intelligent way to realise we all have so much we could experience outside of our own tastes and behaviours.
