The Ride 17 is a surprisingly great shoe. I would have never expected that I would like this shoe until I tried it. Very versatile and stable. I’m not the lightest runner in the world and so I prefer the controlled and energetic midsole over something softer and squishier. Also there is plenty of room in the fit and your toes are not scrunched together.

Excellent comparison, Andy. I didn't realize the Hyperion Max was lighter than the Endorphin Speed. That surprised me a bit. But wow, what a rotation. Those are four solid shoes. Currently I've been using the Speeds, Novablast, and Hyperion Tempo for my rotation. I'm also curious to try the Rebel v4 as I've like previous versions. And I'd like to try the Puma Deviate Nitro 2 as well, so maybe someday I'll get those shoes on my feet. Too many choices!

I have the Hyperion Max & they are awesome. Very light, slightly on the firm side but easy to get used to. Excellent grip & great to run fast in🤩

I've just bought the NB4 and Speed 3 in a sale (and the Mach 6). but haven't run in them yet. Which do you find better for long runs?

@@st4331 Long reply - sorry! I have not tried the Mach 6 so I cannot comment on that - I did try the Mach 5 but returned them after less than 20km/3 runs, within about 3k of each run I got hip pain with them, probably a me problem rather than the shoe but either way they did not suit my gait. For easy runs up to a steady pace the NB4 are absolutely fine, and for long/easy runs I would pick them over the speed 3. I tend to grab the Speed 3's for anything with speed, intervals, workouts etc. The speed 3's are surprisingly comfy, so I am sure you could do long/easy runs in them, but the NB4 are even more cushioned. I find the NB4 have better grip than the Speed 3, I wouldn't trust the speed 3's on wet/twisty courses with any chance of mud, where as the NB4 handle it fine (nothing special, but I am at least not worried I will fall over, unlike in the Speed 3s). For me its simple, Zone 2 or less I grab the NB4, Zone 4 or 5 the speed 3. Zone 3 Depends on the length, if long steady NB4, if short speed 3. Then race day Pro 3's

Great comparison video! I love the Hyperion Max! I have 2 pairs with over 300 miles and just got 2 new pairs. I need to order a few more pairs before you can’t get them. I’ve tried other shoes like Novablast 3, Endorphin Speed 4, etc but they don’t feel right for my running gait or cause blisters/hot spots in different places.

Boston 12 is the exact opposite of the Speed 3. Speed 3 feels amazing for the first 8k and then gets mushy in the forefoot. The Boston 12 is terrible in the first few miles but the longer the run the better they get.. Always start the run in the Boston 12 with WTF.. But return home after 20k with a big smile ❤..

Been using the Ride 15 and Speed 3 pairing for the past 2 years. Both shoes have done me very well for both easy and speed efforts and are coming to the end of their lives. After this review I think it is time to upgrade to the Ride 17 and Speed 4! I am curious to try the Brooks Hyperion Max but unsure if I'd enjoy the firmer ride.

I picked up the Hyperion Max off EBay for £80 over Christmas. Amazing shoe. Being a size 14uk the lightness is so noticeable. Great rocker and no mushiness.

ASICS Novablast, Brooks Hyperion Max, and Altra Escalante Racer are my current rotation. I have a ton of miles in the Brooks and Asics and they have been great performers and very durable. I feel similar to Andy inasmuch as the Hyperion Max being a great choice anywhere from a 5k to a marathon.

I think Boston 12 makes sense for you, it is comparable to the speed, can handle a lot of different paces but is firmer…. Also like 6 mm drop. Perhaps the weight is a drawback for you, it didn’t bother me.

Great video! I got the Hyperion Tempo a few years ago and it was the most disappointing shoe I ever owned. So much so that it continues to stop me buying another pair of Brooks

Endorphin Speed would be my favorite. Love the Hyperion Max but prefer the slightly more forgiving Speeds, as they feel a bit more gentle.

Today I can get the ride 17 for $80 or the Speed 4 for $105. Is there an obvious choice here? On foot in the store the ride 17 feels better. But that may change once going for a run. I don’t feel anything special in the Speed 4 whilst simply standing in it.

Don't bother with the Boston 12 LOL. Well unless you want to add another fairly heavy brick to your rotation. 345g for us for a similar use case to two shoes you featured here which you clearly like and are way lighter. After all if you can do long runs or nearly anything in a shoe at what 270g why would you want one at 345g that isn't a plush plodder.

Hi Tim, How about Boston 12 as a recovery shoe to do those easy miles…. 😊nevertheless . It is an upgrade from the Boston 10-11.

@@hkim9151 That is largely what I had been using the Boston 12 for - mainly last summer though. It probably is something and nothing for me. If I want to go relatively faster or longer even in adidas could reach for the way lighter Adios Pro 3 but for easier runs sometimes I found it just a bit clunky and heavy.

Had the nova blast 4. Lost the bounce in less than 100k. The Novablast is super hot. Completely soaked after half marathon or more. Send the shoe back around 160k because the glue on the outer sole came undone. Very disappointed… Saucony all day everyone day among these.

@earson6011 In my opinion they are one of the best Brooks shoes. They are light, responsive and bouncy but not very soft. People that like very soft shoes will not like them.
