"If you ask a guy in his late thirties or early forties why he isn't married, he'll have his answer-you could call it his defense-ready. For some, the rationale is a self-fulfilling prophecy." Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian and Wes Clark Jr. discuss this whether or not they're buying this stigma. Does this stigma exist, tell us what you think in the comment section below.

We don't want to be rinsed by gold diggers. If a man makes it to 40 and single, he's seen and heard it all before and can't be duped by her act. With age comes wisdom from experience.

I'm 33, single, no kids, never been married. I have a decent job, I travel, ride a motorcycle and pursue various other hobbies. My extended family often asks me when I'm going to get married and I ask them one question: why? They all come up with some bullshit answer. Last year at the company Christmas party all the dudes I work with tell me how lucky I am and how jealous they are of me because I have no attachments.

This really is just another reason why i hate society, i just can't stand how demanding people are of how others should live their lives. Let them make their own fucking decisions with their lives and why should they have to be told shit if they don't live by certain standards. If a man isn't married or hasn't had sex by a certain age, what would it fucking matter to you? It's either his decision or he just doesn't have the confidence to form relationships anyway.

it's just amazes me of how people are so bothered by the fact that people don't have a relationship on the certain age that Society thinks that they're supposed to have a relationship. it seems like the society is expecting everyone to do the same thing which is marriage or children. as for me I hardly have any desire to get married but having Adventure and excitement.

Some men have never married not because they commitment-phobes, players etc, but because quite simply while they may be regarded as decent guys, they no woman thinks they're special enough to commit their life to them. Considering what a huge committment marriage is, and the hoops one has to go through in order to get married (ask her outm first date, second date....) it is staggering that there aren't more people out there who never marry.

I am 34, single, never been married, straight, have short term relationships in the past with women but did not end well and now I am just enjoying my life and who knows I could find the right women one day, get married and start a family. Sometimes it just social stigma and values that condemns unmarried bachelors, especially boomer relatives and conservative people. I am not a drug addict and alcoholic, I frequently workout, eat healthy, can take care of myself and totally dedicated to my profession as a transactional attorney. There are other things that bachelors can focus in life instead of succumbing to social pressure, lowering your standards and ending up with the wrong women. Though sometimes I envy the married men who are lucky and blessed with beautiful wife and kids but anyways we all have our timeline and destinies in life!

Marriage is so overrated. I mean besides some legal benefits what does marriage give you that a long/life term serious relationship doesn't. And on the flip side if you two come to not enjoy each others company any more, its a lot easier to break up if you weren't married and where just in a long term relationship. I'm not saying I'll never get married but I see people jumping to get married as quick as possible and it usually doesn't fair well. At least live together for 5years before hand.

Marriage was the single greatest mistake I've ever made in my entire life. . I lost my job, my car, my dog, my house, and my family antiques. . I got $16,000 of her debt, all her thrift store garbage (she got my antiques, I got her used trash), and 17 years of child support payments for her and my neighbors child. . Stupid me thought I had a right to leave her after she had an affair with our neighbor---apparently not, considering the immense punishment I've suffered for her poor decisions...

I hate questions like "Are older single men stigmatized" as the reeks of pop-psychology (In this case a few interviews, and a single statistic, and prices for one overpriced match maker) There are a few obvious extraneous variables to consider: 1) Socioeconomic background 2) Criminality 3) Sociability 4) Mental / Physical Health 5) Attractiveness rating 6) Race Control for all those variables (and probably more), and then attempt to find the effect of age and marital status on stigmatization.

There's a movement these days that a lot of men are not getting married, these are among the smartest men. A wife can fill a divorce for u even after she cheats for no reason, gets your house, alimony, your kids, and half your assets. it devastating for a men! Women need to respect men more, we don't have it easy, work is stressful; we would love to stay home to take care of kids and work part time and buy things we only want. Feminism was needed in the past, but now its all about superiority.

So where do I fit in? I'm 37, never been married. I've had two serious relationships, one in which I was ring shopping, but both women broke MY heart, and left, both for different reasons. 1 cheated on me, only to get cheated on (serves her right). The one I was going to propose to admitted to me years later she was seriously messed up, and still is. Regardless, my heart was crushed, and the reason I'm still single is because I now have trust issues with women. Love 'em dearly, trust 'em, never!

I've met family members for the first time whose first question to me was "Are you married". When I tell them no their next question often is "What are you waiting for?" To them apparently, my marital status is the most important thing about me. Friends of my mother have asked her " Is he married YET?" Their view, apparently, is everyone's life goal is or should be to be married. Your NOT being married is to them, apparently, some type of failure to launch. I've decided when I visit the area where these relatives live, I'll seek out those people I WANT to see. Oh, Did I mention that I AM gay!!!....;-)

I dunno being unmarried sucks mainly because you don't experience all the good and fun of being married. It's like saying not going to public school is better than going, sure the kid not going will have plenty of reasons as to why he's happy he doesn't have to go, but 20 years down the line he'll be an adult who missed out on all the school yard fun, etc.

"she take everything excuse" is a reality. What incentive is there for men to get married, why not have a girlfriend. Women are indeed stressed out, the full-time working women who i only have respect for that work & pay their share of the bills, now realize that work that men did for centuries is not as glamorous as they thought

Marriage is contrary to human nature, which is why many end in divorce. Sorry, but I'm the type of person who can and will get bored of a partner. Also, I want to travel, see the world, do risky things, etc. without having to get permission from a spouse. Not everybody wants to settle into the generic, family of four, two car garage, and a white picket fence lifestyle. That may be some people's definition of living the American dream, but to me its a suffocating nightmare.

I'm not, they are. Guys are the one's singled out here, and the entire peice about saying women are the ones making these judgements. And no one in the media would be able to say there's something wrong with unmarried women without some visible vocal outrage... Don't need a man to be happy, strong and independent, blah-de-blah-de-blah.

When you're popular women can't get off you. It's completely irrational. Change situation, still the same guy, women won't even bother to look at you.

Why thank you, I do hope that I'll get the chance to put my own advice in practice. I'm rather busy with establishing my career (currently putting in anywhere from 40-60 hours per week between work / school), which has unfortunately come at a cost of my social life. But I'm glad that could help you with your dilemma.

The odd thing was after I got married and people knew I was married I got offered lots more sex from other women. The more I refused, the more they got turned on. My wife said the same thing happened to her, but not from other women. (-;

I'm 44 and have never been married. I'm not gay, I'm just not interested in giving up my freedom. I don't have to ask permission to anyone nor do I have to explain myself.

I just assumed that you meant since people were already making decisions about marriage based on what others thought already, it's okay to persuade them otherwise. My response was that of course people decide to get married or not based on external factors, but trying to convince some to get married or not to get married would be like trying to talk someone out of the kind of music they like. Or something along those lines.
