Are you considering the FXR Fairing for your Road King?

A somewhat lengthy, but thorough review of my experience purchasing and installing the FXR fairing should you be considering it for your own Road King or other HD touring model. A consideration I failed to mention in this video is the handlebar & riser setup in conjunction with turn signals. It's an important one to consider because if the turn signals are mounted to the handlebars (under-mount) you may not have the appropriate turning clearance based upon handlebar and riser height (could be impeded by fairing). At the end of the day I love the outcome. I just wanted people to know that it truly isn't a bolt-on fairing as sometimes advertised. The learning curve can be steep for some and mistakes can be costly. I couldn't even figure the cost if taken to a shop to install plus paint. Probably several thousand dollars not including the cost of the fairing and bracket. Thanks for watching!

@@hooligan2189 makes sense bro. I'm glad I was able to help. I wish it was easier, like make it fit the model so you don't have to cut. Or, add more info., like for Road King you need to remove fork cups, etc. If it was manufactured to fit, which I don't understand why it can't be, then offer fit and finish w/paint. Then it's for sure a DIY. I will say Klock Werks is launching one, so maybe their's will fit right. Also, keep an eye on Advanblack as rumor was they were too.

@@SJBaggerjust looked at the klockwerks fxrt yesterday and it looks like it comes with everything and is made to fit from what it seemed. It would piss me off because I want this fairing too

@WindyPine1131 ⁠ yes KW has a nice kit. I would say plan on dumping those fork sliders/cups/cow bells if you want the best clearance.

Couldn’t agree more and ultimately what I’m trying to get across. The fitment should be more spot on and not require the amount of customization that needed to take place. Klock Werks is coming to the market with their version and curious to see how’s theirs will fit.

As I mentioned in a comment on one of your other videos, I went with the IMZZ fairing and I couldn't agree with you more about the fitment. I got lucky that I wasn't planning on using the upper fork covers from the start and I had enough clearance to not have to trim any it. If I was gonna leave them on I would've had to trim a lot off the bottom. That said, it's close to rubbing on the forks( about 3/4" on either side) when I go full left or right. To IMZZs credit, on their site for the fairing it states that it's NOT paint ready and requires some body work prior to painting. I made sure the painter knew that and he crushed it! I also agree that it was well worth the headache, and I would do it again if I had to.

Yeah they should just tell you to dump for the fork cups if you want to refrain from cutting so much. I mean all in all I'm super happy with the turnout and wouldn't change it. I just think there's a few things that can be done to make it a little more plug n play.

Fxr has gone up in price, crazy it doesnt come with mounting kit for that kinda scratch. Your bike is on point brother! Half tempted to make my own mold and produce something a little bit more user friendly. I could paint em also.

You can find the fairing on Amazon and eBay for $800s all in. That’s the route I would have taken if I had to do it again. It’s not plug and play and requires cutting/shaping to get fitment right.

You can fit these on any of the touring models, its just the wiring is a nightmare as you got to run gauges for those bikes.

Definitely would if I had the 2k and decent painter , but vector and reckless fairing make it to damn easy to convert from stock to fairing for lik $800 plus no need to deconstruct

Maybe I missed it but how are the front turn signals mounted? are they mounted to the fairing? if so how did you mount those? really want to keep the stock turn signals as I have the HD led turn signals and I love the look of them

Hey Ryan! If you go through my build series you’ll find it. I did use the stock turn signals and brackets. I mounted the L-bracket under the fairing on each side and bought extenders to run to plugs on the fork neck.

A lot has changed in the market since I did this video. Klock Werks for one has entered the FXR fairing market and from what I can tell, theirs is plug n play. At the end of the day I just wanted folks to be aware my experience wasn’t that. Not to deter them, but just let it be known the amount of effort involved.

if they had a road king to put it on and off they see where they got to cut and whet needs to be done for it to go right on/ a lot of aftermarket performance places buy bikes to see how there product will work so they can give instructions and tell you what you need and what you should go with.

100%. All in all I wouldn't change things, I'm simply saying why can't it be more plug and play; fork cups or not. I'm interested to see what Klock Werks does with theirs.

Hard to say Jason. There are quite a few of them out there, BMC, Dominator, Big Bear Performance, JD Custom, etc. I know Matt Laidlaw has installed a few IMZZ and has had to modify quite a bit. I honestly don’t think you can escape it, always going to require some modification. Thanks for watching brother and if I can help out in any way don’t hesitate. End result is amazing though!

Hard to say. If I had to guess I would say probably not. I deleted the stock riser clamp and bolted Kraus riser directly to the top triple tree clamp. I don’t think you’d have the appropriate clearances using stock riser clamp plus the width of apes makes it even tougher.

Why did you buy a Road King? You know that Harley builds a bike with a fairing. I ride my Road King for the visibility and the wind. I don't get this.

I had to stop at 7 minutes into the video. You have a note page in your hand and yet you’re just rambling along. Did you think this video thru or just shooting from the hip ?
