I know I’m commenting on an old video but I actually take lessons with two people. The first one I really like and she starts out slow and she told me that all trainers should have a trainer themselves and she does. She started me out slowly by tacking up and walking first lesson. She mainly does dressage which I am interested in. The other trainer does not have a trainer but she focuses on jumping which I want to do. But the second trainer started me out on trotting my first lesson which I was not expecting. Her horses are plow reined which I don’t care for as much. The horse I rode was 27 years old and when I got on him he stepped backwards and his neck slammed my helmet(luckily I had one on). She told me he does that almost everytime. And he only trotted for like 10 seconds then walked and wouldn’t go when I gave him cues and asked him to. The only thing is I want to jump aswell as dressage but the first trainer does not do jumping at all, I’m not sure if I should just stick to the first lesson instructor or keep doing both.

I know this is a really late reply, however In my experience, it sounds like the first trainer may be the best one to fit your needs. We are always learning, and someone who is no longer interested in learning will only take you so far. Dressage is the foundation of good jumping, so my advice is maybe stay with the first one for a while until you are comfortable to handle a horse in walk, trot, and canter, and then consider going to jumping classes after you have a solid foundation, otherwise she may push you too fast too quickly. Hope this helps someone out there!

I love where I’m taking lessons at right now, I love the trainer and the horses, and they’re SO well taken care of. My problem is, in the lessons I do the same routine every time, and it’s feeling monotonous. I don’t want to leave, but I also want to be challenged. Any advice?
