The first minute of this video is so true. I'm my case I can really pick up the guitar maybe 3,4 times a week at best. And I automatically go to things that I already know because it brings me joy. Especially when I know that at any moment life is going to come calling for me to tell me to go somewhere or do something else.

I’m guilty of playing the fun stuff, things I already know and comfortable with. Then later on I’m too tired, something else comes up. Thanks for the tip as I need to get out of this bubble.

Oh yes that´s the way I should practice from now on. Thanks for the advises! I usally start practicing with playing a song I like to get in the flow. Than I´m practicing scales, soloing and so on and to end the practice time I just play another song I like. But I think your way will be more efficient, I will definitely try it.😁

Holy cow Blue! Second time I'm watching this lesson a few weeks later and things just keep getting clearer for me. Especially about laying the scales over the pentatonics. I'm guilty of jumping right to practicing the songs and skipping the stuff I really need (scales and pentatonics) but this guide has really inspired me to learn and study the basics first. First thing I do is practice picking accuracy!

Another lesson that is right up my alley Blue....thank you!! I do start my practice with scales and finding the roots and the 3rds, and then I do go through my chords, but I'm doing the chords wrong. I have been doing the major barre chords all up the neck, one fret at a time, just to try and get good at the up high on the neck. What I should be doing is what you just said, identify and practice the chords in the region of the scale...that's MUCH more useful to me. I also practice the 'up 3 down 1' method of scales and I do practice runs as well. A lot of the songs that I would like to play are just too difficult for me, which is sad, but it's something to keep aiming for, no? I really like your lessons, they're so practical and you book is a 'must have' for anyone who is learning.....

Hey Blue! I've been working on skills first for awhile now (usually once a day). I try to play more than once a day, so I'll try new skills that I've learned (like from a favorite teacher on YT) the next time. It works great! I see progress every day. In fact, a couple days ago i impressed myself by doing scales faster than i have been. (I don't impress myself easily!) I've also been learning new stuff quicker, that always comes from practicing skills first. (i noticed that right away, so that's when i started doing skills first.) During at least one practice (daily), i also try to play short pieces that I've learned that are in a particular style (like ragtime, Bo Diddly, etc) that i want to play flawlessly, so i try to play them every day at least once. I start slow, then work up to speed. Another thing i do (not every practice, or even every day) is to play a couple of fingersyle songs, just to keep my hands limber and in shape for that. I need to play more on an electric guitar, cuz i need more practice bending notes to get more notes out of each bend. On my acoustic guitar, which i keep handy, i can only get up to a full step with the B & E strings. For some reason, i have trouble getting a full step on my G string, prolly cuz it's wound. But, strangely, the D string bends easier! Anyway, I've noticed i can get several notes of bends on my electric guitar, easy, pretty much anywhere on the neck. I just need to practice more so i can develop better technique. Keep up the great videos! 👍 👌 BTW, got your book (vol 2?) I think it's on "soloing." I started it, but put it down & forgot it, lol. But i did notice it's got good licks & all kinds of useful stuff in it. I'll get back to it, just been busy!

Another great lesson. I am getting better switching between boxes but I need help with Triads, Modes, Arpeggios, etc... I saw a video explaining how Gilmour would choose notes from Arpeggios but I just didn't see it... Just trying to not get stuck doing the same riffs over and over again..

Great lesson! How did you know to start the #4 pentatonic shape under the A string barre chord?

When I practice pentatonic patterns, I do major and minor at the same time. Going back and forth between the two, fluidly! Half of the exercise starting with upstroke and half starting with down stroke! Doing that sped up my picking speed and improved picking accuracy, dramatically!

Up 3 > Back 1 is my jam! I also like it b/c it makes me sound a lot faster than I really am 😅

I've tried for over two years to follow the "correct" exercises and I can no more play a song than I could at the beginning. My firm belief now is to ignore all that theory. Just dig out the tabs and learn as many songs as you can. What sounds better to an audience? Rattling off a dozen hits or playing the pentatonic shapes perfectly? They won't be interested. And unless you want to write music, I don't think you should be either. I'm done with theory.

The way I like to practice is that I always like to learn something new each day and then the following day I go through what I learnt new the previous day and of course practice everything else that I like to play. Works for me as I find I'm then continuously increasing my guitar skills. I love learning music theory because with that knowledge I actually now understand what is being played whereas when I started 4-5 years ago I was just trying to remember things etc. I find the guitar is a very magical instrument and the harder you work at it the magic appears! I mean there are only 12 notes on a guitar and it's about understanding the relationship of the notes in any key that makes everything interesting and fun.

She told me to take out the trash once to many times. I practice all I want now.

Great lesson. I was watching a Robben Ford KZfaq lesson. Well a few lessons. He said that chords are the most important thing to learn. And in one lesson, which was over my head and there weren’t tabs, he said to play funny chords with the blues. Like major 7, minor 7, 9th, 11th, augmented and diminished chords etc. He demonstrated the blues with all of these great jazzy sounding chords. Can you do some lessons on this ? I looked up jazz chords and started to cry when I saw hundreds of them. I’ll never memorize them all. So which ones should we start with ?

Hi Blue I don't understand why you are starting on the Gnote if Anote is the root?

I tend to get pretty annoyed when my fingers don’t comply with my brain instructions any tips to manage frustration so I dont break the guitar in those instances 😂
