I'd say explaining the alternatives to Pay to Play for beginners would be helpful.

Oh god !! Another selling video. I watched the first video and it wad amazing.. i went to watch this one. And it was like most of the sellers who are trying to sell their coaching or professional recording demos. You dont need that guys.. tons of videos online... Go learn.. work hard. And you can make it.

Hope you're right. Got any tips before taking the plunge? I'm looking at the P2P stuff, but hear alot of bad things. Really want to move forward and am taking classes and doing projects. Want to take the next step, but get scared off by stuff like this.

Great advice, literally each item on the list was what my coach works with us on in classes. I’m actually more confident as a newbie to get on pay to plays as by March, I have all the items on the list Thank God!!!

I believe everyone can start as long as they want to try. I also hope the words will be more encouraging next time as what I heard from here, can be discouraging rather to people who want to start this path.

Gabby, I love you. I am naturally confident and ambitious, wanting to jump straight into things as quickly as possible. This week I decided to "try my hand" at Voice Acting and you really put me in my place which I needed lol. I will look into connecting with a VA coach and go from there! Thanks a ton!

Good points. Or, get an Agent, and they'll tell your right off the bat when you do a self-tape, if the quality is good enough. And in order to convince that Agent that you can even do self-tape, you'd have to pass all these tests automatically in the first place. (Obviously if they signed you, you've got a marketable quality) Pay-to-play is and always will be, small, supplemental income. If you truly want a career in voice, you need to to get a rep and go to actual auditions, or self-tape through an Agent. (Exception to this is audiobooks, which you can get directly through the production companies, like Audible, etc., and these companies will run an extensive test to see if your studio is up to the required quality for self-recording) But in terms of commercials, it's not like you can just reach out directly to McDonald's... you need to audition. (Voices123 is a terrible website BTW. Check out my Google review...)

A good, state-of-the-art computer, is not something absolutely necessary to produce good voiceovers since you can even use a regular cell phone for this purpose. The most important things are: a good booth, a professional microphone and interface and also professional knowledge. A good, brand new computer may be better. I own a first generation I5 PC and it works great for me. I think that a good microphone, a good interface and a professional booth are the main items, and if you can afford it, good headphones and audio monitors certainly would be better.

I've always wondered this: If one's home studio is good enough for quality professional work (and for your clients), why is it not good enough for one's demo?

Question...Whats the actual difference in what you create and what your vocal coach will create? What if you have experience mixing audio, editing video, choosing background music, etc? What is it I should be looking for with such an expert that I cannot reproduce on my own?

Rudy Abel have you been on voices.com or any other of these websites? They are full of professional VO actors that have demos from commercials, some very famous commercials or even work from a popular Disney movie. I found hundreds of these people on there that have years of experience and over 150 reviews each. These people post professional clips of commercials they’ve already done in a studio with directors in the business. I think this was a what she means.. before you post a demo on these kinds of sites, make sure it’s from a job you’ve already been hired to do. I think when you do a reading and turn it in, the person that hired you is using their equipment to edit it etc... after they do that, use that clip as demo! The competition is fierce on these sites!

Ok. So we make the demo remotely at your studio? Or we send you the file for you to edit? Or both. Or neither? Lol

Hi Gabby, you've advised beginners to stay away from the pay to play sites. What are some good sites to get my foot in the door that allows me to earn?
@GiftofGab
@GiftofGab 6 жыл бұрын
That's just it - it doesn't work that way. There are no websites that will help you get started and make money. You must be well trained and competitive. When you are both of those things you begin to market and sell your voice to prospective clients, agents and casting companies. However, the exact combo will change voice actor to voice actor because you must first ID your niche and know WHO you are marketing your voice to. In today's climate, voice actors who are new, begin by marketing their voice to prospective clients and generating their own opportunities. Once you have gained some steady working relationships and proven your worth, then you look to move to the next level by becoming a trusted service provider to larger companies. It's a long road. But there are few if any "entry-level" voiceover jobs out there. I talk about this as well as strategy in my books.

Caleb Shaw you’re not hearing audio from my actual studio mic lol rarely do we do that in videos. Usually what you are hearing is a lav. Also we don’t turn off the ac or prep for recording the same way I would for a voiceover job. The lights make it way too hot.

Voices com is a scam . They take like 40% or better from the jobs price . Then take a final value escrow fee . And You can have all of this for $400-500 a year subscription fee . 😡
