Hi Guys - great vid, lots of common sense advice - always good to be reminded of. I'm a British biker who has lived in Spain (Valencia) for more than 20 years now - in fact was out with some local friends this morning & had coffee sitting outside in beautiful sunshine at 1169m (3800ft), sorry to rub it in for all the UK based riders🤣. My comment is - a couple of clarifications/corrections to your comments re Spain. First - GPS based speed camera location is totally legal here & the police (Guardia Civil) will not look at your device for it, fine you or do anything. Second - earphone audio is absolutely NOT legal & you could end up with a big problem. Ear guards are fine, on a lanyard or otherwise. Helmet mounted 'bluetooth systems' are less clear. If your helmet certification number begins with '05', then technically it is illegal - although the police are extremely unlikely to do anything - especially with foreign visitors. If your helmet certification begins with '06', then it's legal if the system is approved by the helmet manufacturer. Like I say highly unlikely a bluetooth system will produce problems, but earphones are a total no-no & in any case stupid. Sorry to go on & never commented before, but I really like you vids😁✌

Very informative vid! You guy's are vets in touring and seen it all I guess 😂 A lot of stuff I all ready knew and is just common sense but the Caxton Card is new to me, I live in Belgium and honestly, I think not much people here know about it. The drone thing in France is a bit worrying. I'm far from a hooligan but I like to ride with the flow, not really paying much attention to speed, sometimes I'm way below the limit, sometimes a bit above, guess my cruise control is gonna be my friend here lol Thanks for the vid!!

Excellent, you speak about sucking fuel from the tank to fill another. No need to suck, place the pipe in the tank seal around it with a rag or your hand blow hard into the pipe, remove your mouth and the back pressure causes the petrol to flow, no mouthful of fuel, cheers gents

Great tips, anybody would think you’ve done it before. I learnt the hard way but now can get everything for an extended tour in a 30l bag, don’t ask me how much electronic kit I take😆. I was the GS boy who used to travel with massive steel boxes and top boxes, I now ride a V2S Multi with small panniers and a modest tank bag, far more fun and just as capable a any GSA.

Your old packing videos are great..saved me lots of space and time. I took the same gear on the Norway tour as I did to Spain. More space for souvenirs. Always take Imodium tablets as local food may not agree with you...as I found out a few times. See you next year in Spain/Portugal.

Really informative lads, especially for a 1st timer. On the subject of meds. I usually ask my GP for an extra prescription before I go, I also take a list of meds just in case, a weeks supply goes in a leg bag along with my passport, that way the most important things are always on me. The other extra meds are locked in a side case, an additional bit of stuff is Imodium! and I also take sudocrem. Let's face it, no one wants a sore arse while riding a bike 😉🏍.

Interesting video, impossible to cover everything but you might consider mentioning “motorway” electronic payment tags and how to use them e.g. make sure no other bikes or vehicles are close to you when approaching the barrier or use “T” car only lane. Tags common in France, Spain and Portugal not sure about Italy and whether they cover all countries. France has a class for bikes but I think Portugal and Spain charge car rates for bikes? Vignettes required in several counties including Austria and Switzerland, I understand that in Czechia bikes are exempt, cars are not, however unscrupulous people at the border crossing will direct unsuspecting bikers to a private outlet closest to the border police office and sell you an unnecessary vignette at a premium?

Some great tips there guys. If I can pass on some first hand experience of the knife/multitool situation on Brittany Ferries. Like you I had an expensive multitool as part of my toolkit and didn't want it to be confiscated at the port. Strangely cars and motorhomes can carry such items (full cutlery drawers on motorhomes) but bikes can't. I contacted Brittany outlining what I was intending to carry and that it would be in a locked metal toolbox attached to the bike. They forwarded my email to the port authorities and both granted permission for it to be carried. On arrival at Portsmouth the check-in staff were aware of this fact and I had an orange sticker attached to my bike and was sent to a different queue from the rest of the bikes. I was then waved straight onto the ship and was in my cabin and showered about an hour and a half before my mate was even on the ship. 😃

Hi Guys, just a point that you may have overlooked as a lot of your clients are from Englan, is that Travel Insurance will almost alwasy NOT cover a rental motorcycle! I took out insurance for my Magellan tour of Corsica, Sardinia and France, and missed the small print that defined Rental Vehicle as only a 4 wheel vehicle or Campervan. it was only when I tried to claim damage on the bike that had fallen over that this was mentioned. The other concern I have, is that when paying for a Guided Tour, we Australians had expected our Magellan Guide to actually ride with us, do the both of you actually do this?

Hi Guys Great video. What do you do about bike security when your touring ? Im thinking of going down through Spain from Santander to visit family near Alicante and trying not to use Motorways if possible - How far between overnight stops do you allow for?
@markholroyd5365
@markholroyd5365 5 ай бұрын
Hiya. We use a disc lock and the bikes own security. Think about where you park in hotels not in dark areas but to be honest we have not had any issues… As for distances it’s up to you. On tour our days can be anything from 150-260 miles depending on where our next hotel is. It’s nice to just bimble though. As for hotels I only book the first nights hotel if I’m travelling on my own. Then when I decide to stop I find a hotel go to reception ask for their Wi-Fi code then check out a price to stay on Trivago. When I have a price I go to the reception and ask if that’s a good price. They invariably say no they can do it much cheaper. It’s never let me down and I have stayed in some very posh hotels for as little as 40€..

Lot safer travelling on the Continent than here, especially in rural areas, I just take a Litelock for overnight stops if not in a locked car park, never had an issue…

Hi there, I was watching another RTP channel or two and some curious maintenance issues cropped up with RTP's. One complaint was that his RTP(American) had a characteristic vibration through the handlebars at 70 mph which is a very ideal cruise speed for RT's and RTP's. So my question does an RTP typically have a higher incidence of repair than the standard RT? Lower incidence of repair or are they essentially the same 🤔 Another channel this guy called himself Monster Flipper. He frequented police auctions for an RTP. Again this other guy pointed toward clutches failing. This particular RTP bike he bid on had a clutch to be replaced. All auction staff told him was it had a drive train issue. He wasn't despondent even though he had a full two days of wrenching just to get to start replacing the clutch. But this was where I had the red flag. The RTP had a little over 7000 miles on it! One new clutch 7000 MILES Finito Morte egads lads... HELLO? So I'm wondering frankly with the higher predominance of speedier acceleration pressures on the clutch. Is this anomally highlighting an across the model range weakness in the clutch by any chance. Have you noticed this at all with RTP's needing more parts sooner, in particular clutches? Thanks really enjoy your useful material, never heard of blood bikes! Oh that simulator the 6' 5" Motorcycle Cop was mentioning. Does it have a name please? BTW Dry Sparkle very interesting product for sure, antifog can be a lifesaver. The word is hydrophobic not aquaphobic 🤫 Is there any way you can get a shorter guy like me 24" inseam to be able to flat foot on a 1250 RT without sitting on the battery 🤭 Beautiful bikes sick to get one but I'll need to be imaginative to fit on them flat footed. There's a puzzler for you huh? I do know a woman had a lowering suspension strut ($500 item from BMW) but she was 5'9". So my guess is if there isn't a comfy seat like about 4" lower than normal I'm out of luck... 🤷 Regardless, great show guys thought I'd get to see you blazing down the highway on that RR 1000R. Gad that's solidly in superbIke territory. Frankly that police Sargent really set the bar for me. I'm 68 years old, so you're never to old to refresh your defensive driving skills, excellent interview, top shelf Dude! 👍👍
