Great video man. You can't go wrong with this one. He is none other than Eddie Van Halen, Co founder of the group Van Halen with his brother the drummer Alex. He's one of the greatest ever and he's self taught. Alot of people don't realize he's just as good on the piano as the guitar. He passed away within the last couple of years. It was like losing a family member because I have been a fan for so long. He's the one that inspired me to play guitar. R.I.P. Eddie. We love you!! Keep up the great work.

Early Van Halen is where it's at! Try..."I'm The One" from Van Halen's self titled debut album from 1978. Other gems from that historical release are "On Fire", "Ice Cream Man", Running With The Devil", "You Really Got Me", "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love" and "Jamies Cryin". Their first album out the gate was revolutionary in that time. The next five albums featuring original frontman David Lee Roth would solidify their place in rock history and make them one of the top draws throughout the eighties. If you're going down this rabbit hole... start with their debut release Van Halen. They were young and hungry and out to take the world by storm, which is exactly what they did! R.I.P. Edward Van Halen...One of the greatest ever!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, this brought me back! I discovered Van Halen growing up in Southern CA. One of my classmate's older sister was supposed to be baby sitting us but she took us to a backyard party instead and there they were. I was hooked since. Fast forward years later, growing up as one of the nerdiest Asian surf girls around who was also hooked on computers, my vinyls & my walkman were Van Halen, a little bit of Journey, Zeppelin, Def Lepard, The Stones, Prince, AC/DC, Michael Jackson, Boz Scags - too many to list. When I heard Van Halen was going to be in concert locally, I ditched school for the first time in my life. They were worth getting into trouble for. I went with my other nerdy friends and we got 10th row floor seating. Eddie played Eruption and I went nuts! Eddie & the guitar are synonymous. Nobody can play the guitar like Eddie, IMHO. Some come close, but Eddie is the king of guitar playing. I now own my own tech company and I got a lot of my employees hooked on Van Halen. When we're pulling nighters, we crank up Van Halen all throughout the office a bit and I always make sure Eruption is on the top of the playlist. @da real adogg, other Eddie's guitar you should listen to, Outta Love Again, Mean Streets, Unchained & Spanish Fly. But nothing beats Eruption. Thanks for bringing me back. Rest in peace, Eddie.

And another quality that made him the best was the fact that he had absolutely no ego at all especially compared to the other big names we all know.He luckily shared a huge percentage with us of what he spent his life creating. Can you imagine the 1000s upon 1000s of hours he spent in the studio over his career. He made it look so damn easy too because of just how gifted he was.I always wondered if Edward & Big Al had continued playing the instruments each had started out with when they were both kids, assuming they were still good enough to land gigs and a record deal later on in their teenage years, what do we think Van Halen would've sounded like vs the way they sounded after switching to the instruments both became rock stars playing?? How would the guitar parts have sounded with Big Al playing it and Edward playing drums??

Got to see them on the Diver Down Tour at The Carrier Dome in Syracuse (been in Seattle for 25 years now). I was gonna say, before I saw your comment, that others got as good as Eddie with the physical skill of tapping but something just important that no one has ever approached is his soul at doing it. You can learn the skill but you either have style and passionate flair or you don't. He was like a shaman with that thing in his hands. It simply was him and he was it. Oh hey, also, Wolfie's band is called Mammoth (original VH name) or he plays as WVH as well. He hasn't been with Tremonti for a few years now.

Tremonti is Mark Tremonti's band. He was the guitarist & main songwriter for Creed. I’m always surprised to find reactors who have been around for a while and have a varied playlist and are still unfamiliar with Van Halen. You’ve just been introduced to the guitar legend that is one of the four members. You definitely need a rabbit hole dive because the whole band is legendary. It might be hard to find videos for some of their earliest stuff since they hit the scene in 78, but even just doing an audio reaction would be worth it. I always suggest Hot for Teacher and Panama as official videos because it really showcases the personality of the band. They were all fun and games when it came to performance, but they are one of the most musically tight bands you will ever come across. It’s just straight up, have a good time rock!

He was the reason I started playing guitar because he made it look like so much fun. (And it is.) His death hit me very hard. It makes my heart sing to see someone see/hear this for the first time. I could go on and on about this solo, which is actually a composite of many different small solos that were released over their career, but Eruption was the first one on the band's self-titled first album. If you want some good listening, start with their early releases. That was Eddie, playing a guitar with a couple of effects pedals and then straight into a Marshall stack - about as raw and basic as you can get. But their big commercial hits were the 1984, 5150, OU812, and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge albums.

One of my all time favorite guitar solos. The studio version opened their ‘78 debut album and took hard rock into a new dimension. Van Halen was the first rock band I ever saw live in ‘82.

I saw them live three times and his guitar solo blew my mind three times. I went home thinking what the hell did I just see. I’ve been listening to rock ‘n’ roll since the 60s and I’ve never heard anybody play the guitar like that in any music genre. I’ve never heard anybody play the guitar that fast that good and that skilled. He changed guitar plane forever everybody was trying to copy his style trying to catch up to him. Too bad he had to die. But thank you for showing this video brought back lotta memories. Eric Clapton has nothing on this guy Way out of his league. I just discovered your program and I subscribed and will be listening to everything from now on love you show buddy keep up the good work take care and God bless

When Eddie was a youngster, he bought a set of drums and did a paper route to pay for it. While he was delivering papers, his younger brother Alex would start playing those drums and became a natural talent. Their parents agreed that Eddie should let his brother be the drummer. Eddie to up the guitar to be able to keep playing. Think about what we would never have experienced, had Alex not tried out those drums.

Van Halen were arguably THE rock band that set the tone for the 80's rock scene, for sure! This was from 1986, where guitarist Edward 'Eddie' Van Halen was introduced by Van Halen's 2nd vocalist Sammy Hagar... Eddie Van Halen had been playing guitar and piano as a kid in California since the late 60's/ early 70's... he and his older brother Alex Van Halen (drums) started playing music together... their dad was a jazz musician who had immigrated to the US from the Netherlands. Eddie and Alex Van Halen played together in a school rock band w/ various names... In 1973, they decided instead of renting a P.A. system to play shows, they would hire the owner as their lead singer, a Jewish hyper kid named David Lee Roth... Roth was not the best singer, but he had an energetic presence and knew how to present the band live in concert... He also recognized Eddie Van Halen's talent on guitar and decided the band name should be Van Halen - it was a marquee name (like Santana... Fleetwood Mac) which could draw people to see Eddie play live. Bassist Michael Anthony was added in 1974. By 1976, Van Halen was playing the clubs of L.A. and Hollywood... Kiss bassist Gene Simmons saw the band live one night and offered to help them record demos and try get them signed to a record label and management. It took a while before any interest came... Van Halen was finally signed in 1977. Their first album in 1978 showcased songs that were guitar-oriented and w/ grooves that people could dance to in the disco era. With Eddie on guitar and David Lee Roth being the acrobatic rock star frontman, the album sold 10 million copies in the US alone... By 1984, Van Halen were selling out arenas, stars on MTV and had 6 albums that had sold millions of copies... But the band was in turmoil. Roth and the band were not on the best terms, and Eddie Van Halen began writing songs on keyboards... David Lee Roth was not happy and by 1985, he was out of the band and attempting a solo career. Without a singer but an album written, Eddie Van Halen had a phone call w/ veteran rock singer Sammy Hagar, and they decided to team up w/ Hagar becoming the new Van Halen vocalist in 1986... their 7th album '5150' went to #1 on the US charts and sold 6 million copies. Van Halen delivered 4 albums debuting at #1 on the US charts w/ Hagar on vocals, while David Lee Roth's solo career stalled by 1995. Unfortunately, tensions and disagreements between Eddie and Sammy led to the singer splitting w/ Van Halen in 1996... Van Halen briefly reunited w/ David Lee Roth, but that fell through quickly... Van Halen released the album 'III' in 1998 w/ former Extreme vocalist Gary Cherone, but that version of the band failed quickly... Van Halen reunited in 2004 w/ Hagar, but the tour was cut short because of Eddie Van Halen's addiction issues. After multiple stints in rehab, Eddie decided to bring in the long-awaited reunion w/ David Lee Roth in 2007... but his son Wolfgang Van Halen would replace bassist Michael Anthony (who went to play in Sammy Hagar's band) ... Van Halen's reunion tour was a huge financial success, but only 1 new album would be recorded in 2012... Van Halen's last tour was in 2015. After battling cancer for many years, Eddie Van Halen passed away in 2020. Van Halen w/ David Lee Roth: 'Jump' ... "Ain't talkin' bout love" ... 'Dance the night away'... 'Panama' ... 'Unchained'... 'Everybody wants some!' w/ Sammy Hagar: 'Dreams'... 'Poundcake'... 'Right now'... "When it's love"... 'Seventh seal'... 'Finish what you started' ... "Why can't this be love".

That solo was an amalgamation of several songs, intors and new material. Succintly- Starting with the slow intro called 3:16 (which made it onto an album many years later), Eruption combined with parts of Spanish fly, Cathedral, intro to Mean Street, Spanish fly ending. That solo blew me away in '86 and I totally enjoy watching others react to this the same way I reacted. Eddie was #1 in my book and will always be. HE WAS Van Halen. RiP Eddie

I think most people explained it here already but Eddie Van Halen was one of the greatest musicians ever. RIP Eddie. Him and his brother Alex first learned piano and would do competions when they were younger. Eddie NEVER learned to read music but could play that guitar and make it sing. If you watch JUMP the official video you will see him play guitar and piano in it. Great video BEST solo. Watch Jump next it does have a different lead singer David Lee Roth but that man is Mr Entertainment to watch.

What I find funny is that most people don't know he started out playing the drums and his brother Alex played the guitar Eddie likes the way the guitar sounded and trade his drums now Alex play the drums for the guitar he.was a classically trained pianist And wrote his songs on a piano 1st then put it to his guitar when his son Wolfgang wanted his dad to teach him how to play the guitar he went all Eddie on him.
