The comparison to wolves was debunked by the person who invented it (Rudolph Schenkel). He originally thought the pack worked on a hierarchy of an Alpha, Beta and Omegas. However upon further research he realized he was actually observing a wolf family with the Alpha and Beta being the father and mother and the Omegas being the children. He even wrote a book debunking his original "Alpha Wolf" book however no one read it as they all preferred his inaccurate alpha wolf theory.

My group has 2 alphas, the leader and the back. I was an omega among the omegas... I changed many schools and was made fun of in each. So in my last school, I decided to be friends with those who are also shy/lonely. I created this tradition that we would all sit at lunch together. Our group grew as I introduced more people. They all clicked very well and became friends outside of school. This is actually one of the better videos I've seen on this topic. Mainly because you mention one of the biggest problems, I think, we have in our society when it comes to discussing men. People think an "alpha" is a bully and a show off. This couldn't be farther from the truth! I work in construction and there are many, many fake men who try to come off as dominant. But when you dive into their past or inquire about their life outside of work, you'll find out very quickly that these men come from nothing, and still are nothing. They scheme and lie to make themselves look better, all the while having little to no confidence in themselves. That's why they act that way in the first place. I see these kind of men outside of work too. I think a very important part of being alpha is remaining humble. If an alpha has confidence in himself, what need does he have to show off to peers and even friends?

I pretty much checked out of any hierarchical groups that I could get out of (aside from jobs). I get "pecked" a lot, but no one can really back it up when I defy them. That also doesn't make me very welcome in those circles, so I just got in the habit of cutting people loose when they try to play alpha with me, instead of pushing back.
