Jchown golf by far the best content I’ve found and I’ve watched a lot, does it help yes but you need to video yourself because what you think you are doing isn’t actually what you’re doing. Lastly it’s helped me understand the mechanics of the swing better as you pros tend to drip feed info rather than explain everything maybe because you don’t want to confuse overload but I’ve always suspected it’s because you want 10+ lessons rather than the traditional 3-5 winter low season top ups. I always found I had more unanswered questions driving home but now understand more. Thanks KZfaq

As a self-taught player I pretty much ignore all instructional videos and subscribe to Arnold Palmer’s advice to “swing your swing” and at 60 years of age to understand that I’m never going to be a Tour player and to just enjoy the good shots and forget the bad shots.👍🏻

Hi Andrew good question this, personally as s senior golfer i have watched upteen videos and have suffered information overload and a cluttered mindset when playing. As a Senior im not going to drive it 300 yards, swing speed denotes distance. Golf's a very technical game, lessons are ok but find a good coach. How many of us warm up prior to Comps and how many of us practice. 🤔 ⛳

After 2 1/2 years of playing golf and watching You Tube to learn how I have gotten far better. Part of it is playing a lot and I have learned a lot from good You Tube coaches BUT, I also have got a lot of bad advice from it and regressed and had to work to correct that. Confused is a good word to describe how I got sometimes. would love to get one to one lessons from a pro but cannot afford that. What I have learned how to do is weed out the guys who are not good teachers of the game. I agree Danny Grieve is awesome, I have actually become very good around the greens learning from him. My favorite KZfaq instructors are Peter Finch and Danny Maude. Their instruction is simple and concise. My problem with any instruction video is knowing if I am doing it right and does it apply to my swing. I still feel most comfortable when I have someone watching my swing, figuring out what is wrong and giving me a plan to get better. Nothing beats one on one instruction.

You Tube has helped me get better. Have watched a lot of KZfaqrs, some of them say things like “nobody has told you this” and other click bait nonsense but of all of them, Alex’s channel, The Art of Simple Golf has been really helpful for me.

Merry Xmas - I personally think if you have a good understanding of the golf swing some of the tips on KZfaq can actually help but not as well as going having a lesson with a pro that knows your swing - i fall into the same bad habits on a regular basis. I sometimes watch a video and it resonates with me and realise what I’m doing wrong .You tube has definitely improved my knowledge but not necessarily my game

Great question Andrew, for me personally as a 70 year old with a handicap of 24, whist I understand the technical how to's in the vast majority of you tube content. What I lack is the talent to execute. Having said that, there have been a few (mostly set up) videos that have really helped. One on keeping the inside of your right elbow pointed forward at address and another on golfmates on how to get the correct grip pressure. Having had many, many lessons in person not one teaching pro have ever told me about these. Yes, all pros talk about getting the grip pressure right, but only this video gave me a simple technique I can use out on the course. My 3 favourite channels are, yours (of course) for your unpretentious honest approach to your videos, askgolfnut for just great technical info and Dan Grieve for his wonderful info on the 3 release chipping method.

What a great question. I think it hurts people. There are so many videos that conflict each other it can be confusing for many. Also, KZfaq videos do not take into account age, physical size, strength, flexibility etc. There is no one lesson fits all. There are some generic tips that could help but overall, I find the videos more confusing than helpful. I do like the videos about club fittings and club reviews.

Andrew. Interesting topic; I’ve enjoyed Dan Grieve’s short game insights and previously Luke Donald’s master classes. Do they help - yes massively to me BUT only if you understand your own game already. That understanding came from your wise words in the swing studio! So yes You Tube teaching helps but has to be underpinned with a sound understanding of your own swing and habits. Thereafter, the more you practice - the luckier you get. Thanks Andrew.

"Lessons" on KZfaq cause more problems than they solve imo..You've got to know why what you're doing isn't right before you can correct it. I specifically avoid " instruction" videos. They're too generalised. The KZfaqr can't see what you're doing.

Hi Andrew could you do a video on shaft flexes senior,regular,and stiff shafts in a 5 wood ,7 wood off the deck comparison please ,great video on the KZfaq video can over do the KZfaq videos though on golf,go in a spiral sometimes of confusion I agree with your narration on this video.😊

Hi Andrew, you must be reading my mind. As a golfer of 60 years experience ( once played 6 hcp for about 10 years) I have time on my hands and like you watch a lot of KZfaq coaches. As I’m now in my 80th year nobody really helps me with my physical restrictions so I take the advice with a pinch of salt and I go back to my notes from a lady professional we had at my club a few years ago and it still works. Andrew.. Happy Holidays...I watch your channel and Rick Shiels and others for advice on the equipment they tested.. But for a swing or fix, I relay on my self and a if needed a Golf Coach one on one..Not all swings are the same, and finding your own swing is a key to good golf...Getting pointers on you tube is ok but too many cooks spoil the soup....

Great topic as always Andrew. I don't watch a lot of golf instruction on KZfaq as I prefer vlogs, club reviews and vintage golf club videos I have enjoyed and found value from Chris Ryan over there in the UK. I think you have to have a good knowledge of your swing to benefit from tips. If you don't have an understanding of process, what actions lead to certain places in your swing, tips don't really have a lot of long term value.

Think as you say it is a great point of reference, however like yourself I do have some clients who have tried to fix the problem themselves. But as you say you really don't know what you are trying to fix, as there are different ways to create the same problem shot and therefore without that one to one tuition you may not be fixing the real issue. With my videos i do on KZfaq I do try and keep things simple, and to the point, rather than rambling on like I am doing here 🤣🤣

Fantastic question Andrew, I watch a lot of youtube hoping to find that miracle solution to the golf swing, we all hit a stunning round once in a while, then its gone. There is a lot of good coaches and some of the very best giving advice but even the advice they give are all different . Some coaches say do this and others say don't do that. Very confusing. It's like they are also searching for a perfect solution. Simplify it, not all of us swing like pros.

Love your honesty. At one time, I played to a 5. Still play a decent game, but not 3x a week player anymore. If the majority of average players would just take time to slow everything down & work towards a repeatable swing, they would enjoy the game more. None of us are going hit it like a tour pro, so appreciate being there & enjoy nature/friends…

Hi Andrew, I've watched a lot of you tube videos and gone down a lot of rabbit holes, some helped, many didn't. Over the years i have refined the process to finding a pro for one to one lessons who knows your swing and do what he tells you. The only instructional videos i watch now are when they happen to repeat an instruction my pro has mentioned. They then can be quite useful in providing a drill that makes sense to me. Other than that I steer clear of educational videos now. All the best teaching pros espouse the same basics, best tip i have ever had? keep the right elbow in close, forearm facing out at setup. Worst videos? the ones that say they have 'the secret', to which i scream 'well why didn't you tell me 5 years ago!' seasons greeting

I imagine my experience is familiar to others like me. KZfaq feeds my tendency to tinker. Its what attracts me to KZfaq in the first place. Knowing this, it’s completely unfair to blame the platform for my issues. I can say that because of KZfaq, I occasionally experience glimpses into what could be.

Excellent question and points well made Andrew! Personalization of swing coaching is absolutely essential for golf student success in my view. Nonetheless, I have found the KZfaq content provided by Eric Cogorno to be extremely helpful and on target for my game (I am now age 75) and, as a result, I have been striking the ball much more solidly in the second half of 2023 than I have in a few years. While my experience likely could not be universalized across the KZfaq environment, help is there if you chose wisely although listening to multiple sources can be confusing for sure. For this reason, I still believe for most golfers selecting a single swing coach one can work with over a long period of time and who can diagnose your potential gains against your physical limitations while providing expert advice limits confusion and maximizes personal enjoyment.

Agree with everything you say about KZfaq , however having had golf lessons with various pros over past few years they seem to tell you different things and so you are in same place. For instance last year went for few lessons with top guy locally he just put couple things on floor to hit in to out to cure slice.I suggested should I change grip or club face he just said you could try it but gave no suggestions. A bit frustrating doing that for a few lessons !

They all say, do this and gain shots, try this and you'll improve instantly. If this was the case we would all be tour professionals. The fact that the coach's aren't tour pro's proves it doesn't work.

It depends on the viewer. If you use critical thinking and actually think about and work on the things you see on KZfaq you can improve immensely. I've taken more than 10 strokes off my handicap in the last two years with only KZfaq instruction and a lot of practice. Having been around long before KZfaq existed, the amount and quality of information available to us now is fantastic. Before, I never really had any idea what I was doing as a golfer. Recently I've built a really solid golf swing and a good game based on all the things I've seen on KZfaq. Of course you have to use your head when you do this. The instant slice fixes and "add thirty yards instantly" videos are ridiculous on their face.

My pro's heart must sink when I mention KZfaq golf instruction. He always says to watch videos which mention Pete Cowen as he follows that line of teaching. Also highly recommend James Ridyard for the short game. Others which I like are as mentioned before Erik Cogorno and George Gankas. No need to mention the ones not to follow. Each to their own, just finding your own pro is a challenge, maybe another video?

I take them with a pinch of salt to be honest......was a promising junior gave the game up.....started again 10 yrs ago got to scratch had another 10 yr lay off to now always had solid fundamentals and mimicked alot of the past greats faldo. Woosmam , seve etc as they were my generation. Having struggled abit recently and watching a huge amount of youtube videos and realising i dont do anything correct according to them!! I took myself to a pga pro like yourself who quickly confirmed my swing was technically fairly sound and could see i used to be a good player. Since leaving that lesson and ignoring said videos and playing with instinct again my golf has improved. Id say pro lessons all day long and most of the youtube stuff is regurgitated stuff that people tend to copy off somebody else.

Trying these KZfaq video lessons is like throwing darts blindfold. 99% of the time, you’ll be performing a technique that is useless or detrimental for your particular swing flaw. And maybe, by sheer luck you are the 1% who finds the correct one for your situation.

I've found that a new golfer really should get professional lessons to develop a decent baseline. Afterwhich, they may benefit from the odd youtube golf tip. But, for the vast majority of the golfing population, golf is just going to be hard. To really improve, a golfer needs to devote an inordinate amount of time to hitting balls under the tutorage of a good coach.

In my not so humble opinion, KZfaq ideas are not worth the time and effort. A few years ago, before buying a new set of sticks I undertook with my club pro to have a lesson every 8 weeks for a year. The Result was long term.bFor a week after each lesson I'd try to bed down the new technique and usually things got worse until it clicked and improvement was achieved. My roundabout point is that instant gratification didn't happen for me but a commitment to persevere was necessary and paid off in spades. So, no, KZfaq is not my path to improvement, long term commitment to improvement with a pro who knows your swing just might be.
