The differences between type 2 VS 1 diabetes. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes both occur when the body cannot properly store and use glucose, which is essential for energy. Sugar, or glucose, collects in the blood and does not reach the cells that need it, which can lead to serious complications. Type 1 diabetes usually appears first in children and adolescents, but it can occur in older people, too. Type 2 diabetes is more likely to appear as people age, but many children are now starting to develop it. In this type, the pancreas produces insulin, but the body cannot use it effectively.

I have to say that before being diagnosed with LADA a year ago at the age of 47 I knew very little about diabetes (I now know that I inherited a predisposition to autoimmune disease from my mum who has secondary progressive MS) As far as my little knowledge was T1 was diagnosed in childhood and is insulin dependant whereas T2 was older adults that had made bad lifestyle choices. I’m ashamed to say as a healthcare professional working in Paediatric hospital pharmacy I didn’t learn the true facts about diabetes until my diagnosis. We treat teenagers that are T2 because they are obese and/or have a genetic predisposition to T2 with metformin or long acting insulin. We also have patients newly diagnosed with T1 that present with DKA. What surprised me further was that much more senior staff (Paediatric pharmacists) were shocked when I told them of my diagnosis at my age! T1 I have learnt can happen at any age and the same goes for T2. Oh and I forgot to add shades of MODY... A different directly inherited animal altogether! PS I’m very lucky... I’m U.K. so I have the NHS looking after me :)

Interesting video. I was diagnosed as type 1 23 years ago at the age of 11. I lost loads of weight felt tired and thirsty and was admitted to hospital with a sugar level of 55.5 (uk). Spent the next 23 years on insulin and have always been antibody negative. Transferred to a good consultant who tried me on gliclazide and metformin and cut the insulin out because c peptide levels showed some production. I have now been told I'm possibly type 2. They can't give me a definite diagnosis. It's great to be off insulin and hba1c are 6.2 at last check. I haven't met anyone else who matches my story! Mody negative!

thanks for this info i have understood what I need to do now. Thanks for the explanation on the high sugar in the morning and also checking the blood sugar at 3am to see whether it is the cause of the high blood sugar in the morning. It is interesting how low blood sugar causes high sugar levels in the morning.

Hello Dr. My name is Rosie Trevino. I've been diagnosed when I was 6, you're sold with type 1 diabetes. I do what I can to take care of my health,it's been very difficult for me to manage with insulin and exercise, want to do exercise my blood sugar intensive Spike very high, I tend to go on to diabetic ketoacidosis, I checked my blood sugar daily! Do what I can to eat right. Even when I eat right or no carb diet..for the healthier and better my blood sugar still spikes. Going eight carbs I know my blood sugars even more. How can I manage myself better.. I'm not going to another acidotic rate from dka. For age 6th being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes! Yes it was very thin, underweight for being a 6-year-old always felt tired and my mom used to make me food I fell asleep on the table and didn't want to eat kept going to the restroom a lot. Always thought thirsty.

your cpeptide seems less and sugar values are high. you could be insulin deficient.
