Tl;dr shard maybe kinda good this patch tho I feel like shard is a bit of a secret sauce of 7.35. The root means it really actually does something. The problem is that it's easy to grief your team and unlike other tinker abilities is not really meant to be spammed which means that no one uses it much. I think if you just get it often and get used to using it, it'll prove to be really fucking strong when you have a mind for noticing it's potential. Shivas is recommended though as it can be very tricky to maintain vision. It gives you an easy one up on a stunner/silencer, and doesn't even reveal you from fog, giving you a potential linkens popper. If there's two heroes and only one of them has a stun, then you just press one button and hey presto you get free reign to rearm as you please for a few seconds and potentially kill the other hero. It has the obvious use case as an emergency measure, but can also be used to save allies and potentially seriously interrupt an enemy initiator. Often it can feel pretty bad for the enemy to use a dispel, especially if they got teleported to relative safety, just for a three second root, and in theory you can use it as the last spell of your combo and against any hero that has run out of dispels and just pseudo hex them, though executing this can be tricky, especially in team fights. You can act as a magnus for your team and if you have a keen eye for it there's all kinds of plays you can make. I've had it happen that someone uses lotus orb or similar to run me down so I quickly use defense matrix on myself for the status resistance and then warp flare them to teleport myself over a cliff or into trees. You can teleport people into chromo, disruptor ult, etc. For style points you can launch the projectile and then blink while it is mid air to aim where you want to teleport your enemy. You can use it as a bkb ends and avoid the teleport and get a free (just under) 3 second root. Three second is longer than you might realise, it's longer than gleipnir. The big problem is if it's worth buying and when to get it. At the moment I like it as a bit of an emergency doorstop if the game is spiraling out of control during the period of time where you are weak in the early mid-game, when you are trying to farm shivas/aether+ags.
