I love the arena opens. A low stakes version of a high stakes event is the kind of thing I like to watch pros do and aspire to myself.

I wonder, if Jim could stack his deck and see his opponent's hand, if that first game would have been winnable after Bonny and Rakdos Joins Up were both on the field.

The “Arena is rigged” conspiracy is so tiring. Every game rigged against you is rigged for your opponent, so why are they deciding you in particular should be screwed in a given game?

Some claim Arena will screw you if you get too long of a winning streak. Never saw actual proof though.

Big fan of the arena open runs. I cant afford to do them myself, and it's good to see what they look like.

I am beginning to think 3+ color soup to play all the bombs and removal is the strategy for this sealed format, also crack bonnny pall in your pool

Why are you not playing Sword? isn't Sword kinda busted in this slower format?
@bluerendar2194
@bluerendar2194 Ай бұрын
Quite a bit of a win-more card since it basically just forces chump blocks if no favorable trades. Otherwise it's a massive mana sink for not *that* much benefit. Most kill spells are instants too so the protection isn't that good. Color swords were quite a bit better vs decks that ran those colors as they effectively give unblockable too.

Was wondering the same thing. It won me every game I've cast it in and has been great for my opponents. Would have been really good with the lifelink creatures Jim has too

Lol Jim blazing through all 3 timeouts, then immediately gets salty when his oppo plays slow in the next game.
@mariand.1087
@mariand.1087 Ай бұрын
Seems like half the games Jim just wrecked his draw steps by destroying his library with the Bloodseeker (like when he complained about not drawing land - because he kept milling lands). I don't know how randomly milling yourself would be good in a non-constructed deck. Just mill the opponent and wreck their draw steps, then use the reanimation spells to get your things back AFTER opponent kills them.
@Slidegobify
@Slidegobify Ай бұрын
It's worth noting that even if lands are milled, the odds of getting a land during a draw step aren't changed that much. Later on though if Burrowfiend, reanimate, or one of the raise dead effects are drawn a big graveyard is beneficial. The opposite is also true for opponents. Milling them may benefit them.
@kithkindeck
@kithkindeck Ай бұрын
Mill doesn't ''wreck'' draw steps. Milling cards is completely random. What it does is move cards from a very hard to access zone (the library) to an easily accessible zone (the graveyard). There are enough game theory articles written on this to carpet a mansion.
@thelifedragon2156
@thelifedragon2156 Ай бұрын
like Jim has said himself. milling card from the top of your deck is the same as having those cards at the the bottom of your deck. the thing you have to understand is, the deck is a completely unknow variable. so milling cards off the top is functionally the same as milling the bottom cards, in the same way that shuffling your opponents deck before play doesn't change their chances of getting mana screwed (provided they're not cheating). its just random. so even though it feels like your screwing your opponent over, its actually neutral as you have equal chance of helping them out as you do wrecking them

@@JimDavisMTG That first game is why I dislike sealed. You're a pro-tour contender with years of high-level magic and the guy in front of you could have been a monkey biting down on a mouse and sitting on a keyboard and the outcome would be the same. I would LOVE to see you draft, but sealed does not lend to a lot of skill expression. Bad player with good pool having a fighting chance against LSV with bad pool doesn't strike me as interesting gameplay.
