He isn’t talking about his mentor here though- he’s talking about his dead knight companion who he ALSO had to kill,,

Actually as recorded his backstory, he in fact did kill both his mentor and fallen knight (likely the one he met in the dream) because they stray away from the path of beauty. Perhaps that why Argenti having hesitation in leaving Ena dream, despite his determination to beauty, he can't shake old camaderie he had with his knight companion
