Even though the USA won and qualified to the 04 Olympic, this still hurt to watch because little did the proper USA basketball supporter know that these 2003 roster would have been dropped and so many changes happened in 2004. So then the USA would struggled in Olympic. How shocking news was that

These 9 top players from this USA basketball team here then withdrew either because of security concerns they sighted in Athens or were just tired from a very long NBA season they had or suffered an injury during their NBA season and just didn’t wanna risk recovery time or had personal family reasons etc…problem mainly was Stu Jackson, he waited until 2 weeks before the Olympic exhibition games were gonna start in picking his 9 replacements and even worse, picked no single perimeter shooter to be on the team and picked no good legit play making PG either and also didn’t pick a good backup big man for Duncan should he ever foul out or get in foul trouble…that’s why the countries exploited the flaws of that very 2004 USA basketball Athens Olympics team and capitalized on them bigly. Stu Jackson could’ve picked Damon Stoudamire instead of Marbury as the backup PG for Iverson. As for backup big man for Duncan…Theo Ratliff would’ve been a phenomenal addition to the Athens Olympics team because he was averaging 3.2 BPG that NBA season. He was a presence in the paint. Stu also could’ve added Marcus Camby as well…this would’ve given Coach Brown 3 rim protectors to work with.. but nope, Stu gave Coach Brown a very very undersized team to work with As for perimeter shooters, Stu could’ve gone with Michael Redd from the Bucks, Antoine Walker from the Boston Celtics and could’ve also added Michael Finley from Dallas, he was very interested to represent his country in the Athens Olympics, Paul Pierce is another he could’ve offered an opportunity to as well. I can go on and on, but all I’m saying is that Stu Jackson is at fault here because he waited too long in picking his replacements which is why Coach Brown wasn’t able to get enough of practices he would’ve liked so he could prepare the players for the Olympic competition coming up and again, since having no outside and perimeter shooter threats on the team, Stu was asking for a BUNCH of trouble to begin with.

@@islanders1329fan I can't believe that USAB let Stu Jackson, the worst manager, to manage the national team after what he did to Vancouver grizzlies.. how could the USAB let that happened? Unbelievable how stupid they were to never learned a lesson about the track record of the bad management by Stu Jackson and just allowed him took that job.. No wonder the US basketball and their line up selection were so bad in the mid 2000s

That’s what Stu Jackson did when he was USA basketball chairman. But you gotta remember the A team withdrew for the 2004 Olympics because of either security concerns they cited or were tired from a long season and just wanted to rest or injures they sustained during their NBA season and from there Stu Jackson procrastinated in figuring out the right replacements for the 9 players from the 2003 qualifying team that withdrew because of the reasons I mentioned above, he didn’t start to pick the replacements until 2 weeks before the 2004 Olympic exhibition games were starting and he paid dearly for that. The 2004 USA basketball team was way too undersized and even worse, Stu Jackson didn’t have one single perimeter and outside shooter on there and he was asking for a lot of trouble to begin with. He made Coach Larry Brown’s job very very frustratingly difficult. All those replacements had way too big of a gigantic ego to understand that it’s not gonna be easy to win the gold medal and they just expected countries to lay down and give the the win all because they’re American basketball players, plus they were depending on Tim Duncan and Iverson to do everything out there.

@Islanders13Fan So Stu Jackson was one of the reason why USAB turned to be disaster back then... Heh Im not surprised... He was one of the horrible GM ever. I sincerely believe he was one of the problem behind the worst thing happened on Vancouver Grizzlies... Poor ownership, shit GM that made Vancouver had lost an nba team and Grizzlies then moved to Memphis...

this Argentina team of the 00s showed that great teamwork will overcome any talent deficit. they had really no great players aside from ginobili. but several above average players. and a couple others who were solid contributors. and no ego problems. the USA team had superior individual talent but had very little chemistry. for Argentina the whole was greater than the sum of its parts.

I think the biggest mistake that USAB manager at the time was allowing themselves to dropped out most of the roster from 2003 line up who just won the Tournament of America(that make US qualified to 04 Olympic). Also the fact that Larry Brown wasted the young LBJ, Wade & Carmelo time to be in there but he'd barely even used them was absolute criminal. After the roster changes and with their seniority mindset, they should've had just brought some Piston player like Chauncey, Ben Wallace & Hamilton who'd just won a chips at the same year instead of those rookie I mentioned. Those Pistons player would've had tighten the defense in that US squad. What a stupid management

@@ytanonymity3585 Should have brought some Pistons player who won the NBA chip of the year as well. Chauncey Billups should be called. This was supposed to be the right time for him to play with team USA and definitely his prime time compared to his 2010 USA appearance. Also Ben Wallace, even though he ever played with the 2002 USA and lose badly, he should be given a chance to play with the 2004 USA again.

@Antonio Bašić Tracy McGrady was in this team. Him alone was enough since he was in a good shape at the time. Not to mentioned Kobe couldn't joined the team due to his sexual assault case. Unfortunately for this game, McGrady was hurted and so he couldn't play but then when McGradey played in the final against Argentina again, the USA has done it much better

No that wasn’t it. Iverson played really well integrating with everyone on the 2003 team, that dominated and he was the best player on the 2004 team. Duncan was dog shit and Brown hated playing young guys and the team played no defense.

@@mitchell7309 You just proved my point. Not utilizing the young talent that he had. Not trusting them when he’s supposed to be coaching the US national team and not an Nba team in an NBA game. And another underlying factor in your comment. Duncan not playing well with his coaching style when Pop being his coach did well himself coaching on Team USA because again Brown prefers Ivy. Not to take away from Ivy, he could pass but his play style which constitutes a lot of touches and usage just stifles the offense on a team that has every talent like him 1-12.
@mitchell7309
@mitchell7309 Жыл бұрын
@@cockadoodledoo28 No I didn't. You said the problem was Brown's penchant for using Iverson as undersized SG. Allen Iverson, who they reluctantly added to the national roster in 2003, because of their issue with his image (tats, cornrows) was co-captain and arguably the best player on the 2003 team that molly whopped everyone. Granted T-Mac, VC, Ray Allen, Kidd, and K-Mart dropped out which provided a ton of scoring, length and versatility, defense, rebounding and shooting. But Iverson was by far the best player on the 2004 team. Even if his shooting percentage wasn't fantastic, the team had to score. He represented our country quite well. There was no issue with his play style. Duncan was utter dog shit, and a total disappointment. If he plays near to the capabilities he should've, I doubt we would've had so much trouble. And Brown, refusing to give the young guys (LeBron, Melo, Wade) heavy minutes in unison with either Iverson, or Marbury, who feuded with Brown but was also visibly the 2nd or 3rd best player on the team at said time, was one of the major problems. Odom, Jefferson, Marion, and Boozer just got far too many minutes. Minutes that should've went to the young guys mentioned including Amare. Especially considering they would be C or D rate Team USA talent to begin with. I mean that 2003 draft class were babies. Straight out of HS or barely out of college. That team was not motivated, didn't play a lick of defense, not great spot up shooting, and Duncan couldn't stay on the court. That was their actual problems. We didn't come close to sending our A team: Kidd, Kobe, McGrady, Garnett, Duncan and guys like Iverson, and Ray Allen off the bench. We would've murked everyone.
