After any outing with my Argo, I always preform a mid-year service that includes greasing all the bearings, greasing the chains, and inspection of the most common failures. Additionally, after this ride I had to repair a flat tire, which required removal of the tracks, reinstall a handle that had vibrated loose and fix a front drive chain that had broke - in the oddest way. Finally, in this video, I will share an ignition problem that I had, and repaired, in the field.

I’m not going to lie but I do love watching these type of maintenance videos. Alaska Cut The Cord channel does videos like this and I do watch them. As a gal who has never done this type of work, these videos are insanely important! After your last trip with the Argo it has certainly peeked my interest in one. Great video! Thank you! 🧡

Good work! I have a 2000 Argo Conquest 8x8 that I'm getting ready to install the new Frontier 24" tires on, which of course are bigger then the stock 22" tires and also do a 2005-2007 MX handlebars steering conversion on it and get rid of the individual steering levers. I'll be posting a video on it as well. Thanks for some insights!

You are the best Argo fellow on KZfaq - honest and straightforward about the maintenance on the machine. Working on the Agro reminds me of the joys of working on John Deere combines with all the belts, chains, bearings, pulleys, and grease fittings in the dust and the mud.

Thank you so much for the kind words. When I first started uploading Argo maintenance videos, I did it because there weren’t any videos that I could watch to see how to do fix things. The nice thing for me is the guys at the local Argo dealership are super helpful and always willing to give advice. That said, it’s easier to watch something on KZfaq and be able to fix it.

Good Morning from the Matsu Valley. I had a question that I wanted to get your opinion on. I have remote properties in Petersville and Point Mackenzie. We use our Argo to get to each property. We use our Argo almost every weekend to get to either property. Should I grease my zerk fittings every weekend after we use the Argo? I always drain and wash out my pans, get any debris from around the axles, spray my chains and wash it after each use. I have a 2004 Argo Conquest 8x8 with tracks. I appreciate all of your videos. Definitely enjoy supporting a fellow Alaskan. Be safe and I look forward to hearing from you.

That is a great question. I probably over grease mine. My concern is always water in the outer bearings. If it were me, being a self proclaimed over greaser, I’d grease the outer bearings, if they were submerged in water, in an attempt to push any water out of the bearing. If there was not water in the tub, and the inner bearings were not exposed to water, I would not grease them every time. My two cents. 😉

what caused the flat tire in the front initially? When this happens on a flat track like yours, it shrinks dramatically, and the track prematurely rotates that tire. This puts all slack on the underside of chain, and it can skip teeth. Skipping links is what breaks chains. Is this the track that you shortened when you did your hinge repair? I think you said the front tire is ruined? Did I understand correctly?
@RaisedinAlaska
@RaisedinAlaska Жыл бұрын
The sidewall of the tire was punctured. I ran the tire flat for several miles. This always ruins the tire.
@sartainja
@sartainja Жыл бұрын
@@RaisedinAlaska Pardon my ignorance but is the tire out of round and it being warped will cause the tracks not to run smoothly? Is that the reason for having to replace a low speed, low pressure tire that still holds air pressure?
@RaisedinAlaska
@RaisedinAlaska Жыл бұрын
@@sartainja The tire had been punctured through the sidewall and went flat. And then running it for a while just chews up the sidewall, or more accurately the cords and the sidewall.

With your regular greasing how often do you do bearings?
@RaisedinAlaska
@RaisedinAlaska Жыл бұрын
I had 130 hours in my Argo when I lost the first bearing. That said, I came home early today from a hunting trip because I lost blew another bearing. I think it was related to my chain break. Bolt in the sprocket broke the chain and a bet tweaked the bearing.

@RaisedinAlaska
@RaisedinAlaska 7 ай бұрын
My Argo has a “steering wheel” as opposed to leavers. When it is consistently pulling to one side the first thing I do is check the tire pressure in all my tires. When this has happened to me, I generally have low pressure in one or several tires on one side. I have a friend who I will check with about the next step for the machines with levers.

I just bought a neglected 2015 Argo 750 HDI 8x8. I plan on eventually doing a complete teardown and frame out rebuild and restoration on it. For now, it runs great and drives okay. It definitely needs some TLC. I don't know that much about the Admiral transmission but I noticed that the main brake disks have a bit of "looseness" to them. The trust bolt and washer that hold them on to the spine shaft are nice and tight, but the brake disks still have some wiggle to them. Are the bake rotors supposed to "float" a hair bit or are they supposed to be solid, tight, and rigid on the spine shafts?
@RaisedinAlaska
@RaisedinAlaska Ай бұрын
My brake rotors have a little bit of play in them, from side to side, maybe a 16th of an inch. My steering rotors have zero play.
