Argo Hippocamp Steampunk RC Submarine

This is a buildup of a physical, operational model of the Argo Hippocamp, originally envisioned by Peter Pohl.
This is a one-off model featuring full LED lighting and complete drie system for submerged operation.
If you're like some commenters with short attention spans and who don't care about how things actually work, you can skip to the underwater video at around the 13:37 mark (your loss!).

Oh man, i usually hate seeing print lines, but WOW THAT CONNING TOWER LOOKS AWESOME WITH THOSE LINES!!!!!! It reminds me those bands on old water towers!

Hi, This is Peter Pohle. I remember you contacting me asking for permission to use my 3D model as a submarine. A BIG CONGRATULATIONS. It turned out beautiful. I was sceptical if you would be able to do this, but you did it. Kudos to you. What an achievement!!! And thank you for giving me credit for the design.

Always loved that design, great to finally see it done as an rc sub. I considered tackling it once, but figured I'd get even more fulfilment out of designing my own. The steampunk airship/submarine is a fun design too.

You're a brave man shipping that beautiful sub by carrier. I received a piece of Cold Rolled Steel 2" x 1/2" x 12" and it was bent in transit.

Very cool I so wish I had the spare money to start a project similar to this - doing old wood boat is bad enough my wife would disown me if I did subs....lol maybe later in life I will be able too nice job with this build

Looks like a cross between the Nautilus and Hindenburg . It also looks like the ship ( less all of the propellers ) that Vincent Price use in " Conqueror of the World " . But hey .... That movie and 20 thou . probably inspired the Steam Punk trend .

You should check out the movie "Captain Nemo and the Underwater City". There were a number of "steam punk" movies back before "steam punk" was even a thing! "At the Earth's Core" would be another one.

I am a fan of your work and I am amazed that you were able to make a 3D printed RC model of it. But I have a question. Is it possible for me to purchase one of these. *FANTASTIC MODEL* !!! This is my first time seeing your channel. Have you ever mounted an FPV camera to any of your subs? If so, how did it work out?

FPV only works above the water as radio signal does not penetrate to any degree at high video frequencies. I've done tethered video with home-built ROV's, but not really the same thing.

Super great sub... but it’s missing the frontal harpoon! And the mini sub needs a air hose that attaches to the main sub which can be reeled back to the main sub. :) Just an idea...

Video signal is transmtted at high frequency, which does not penetrate water. You could tether the boat, but then you have an ROV and not a submarine. I simply record HD video aboard and download once back home. I have many videos with onboard video uploaded.

No, sorry. It was generated by another artist and I don't have the rights to redistribute, despite the massive work it took to modify them for actual printing.

I noticed that everytime you build one of these that the entire interior is taking up buy the motors and works have you ever built a working model that was and exact replica both inside with crew compartments and all interior exactly like the real thing like a design engineer would for checking for flaws. Think like you were building a real sub for 3 inch tall people! It would be very interesting to see if it could work. Thanks

Anything is possible. Sure. What you're talking about, however, would be a massive undertaking in R&D, engineering and implementation. You know someone that is willing to pay $50K (or more) for such a boat at such tiny scale? Pass them my way!
