Thank you for your compliment! I don't consider myself a singer, only a singing enthusiast, so I can only speak from a non-professional point of view. . . (I'm first and foremost a pianist by profession) and my own experience --- I've always loved singing, so like many others I started off singing in the bathroom --- as the years went by I tried my hardest to learn by imitating other singers, but I found that it was counter-productive for me because my voice was just quite different from others; all of our voices are. One thing that definitely helped was that had aural training from my years of music and piano lessons from an incredibly dedicated teacher, so that definitely pushed me forward to try learning what worked for me, both as a pianist and as someone who loves singing. He also led me to believing that sometimes trying to learn exactly as how someone would teach would not be the best idea all the time; our bodies are all built different and it takes ages for us to understand what would help improve our skills and technique. In the end we gotta figure out something that works for ourselves, most likely by ourselves too. But TLDR (ohmygod this really became really long), listening to others helps, but listening to your own body also helps. It takes. . . a lot of patience---! I'm definitely still learning more about my voice every time I sing something new though; so I appreciate every single song I've worked on to understand myself better 🤍
