I'm not a professional singer but I sing since I was a child and I do this all the time too. Sometimes your voice hurts and you want to rest a little so you change the placement in order to preserve your vocal cords

As a singer, voice health is something you really have to take seriously. The human voice changes depending on many factors.

She’s right. I do the same thing. In college I walked into my first private voice lesson and I was like “hello” and my teacher was like “stop talking like that.” My natural way of speaking has a lot of unintentional vocal fry, as does many people’s. Placing your voice in a higher, more nasally spot really does make a difference and wears on your voice less. It also takes less effort to project because you’re relying more on nasal resonance.

Lol I do this but not to preserve my singing voice, its so I would sound nicer. I do it when I talk to people I dont know or in a professional setting. My daughter ask why I change my voice, and I dont her my real voice with my New York accent makes me sound a little rough around the edges.

However, in her case, it could be her narcissistic personality disorder showing. She has changed her accent multiple times in her career, not just the pitch...😅 She used to talk VERY differently.

It’s not healthy to use your vocal cords to speak in a higher pitch. She’s overworking her vocal cords so she can continue to sing in higher pitches. This sort of thing causes a lot of trouble opera singers. They and up having shorter careers because they do this.

From a classically trained singer, if you speak deeper or “gravely” tone it actually causes more friction and tension between your vocal cords. However, speaking in a higher range doesn’t require as much vibration and therefore, less strain is placed on your cords. This is the same reason you want to avoid speaking with vocal fry.

I’m classically trained as well. I’m aware and I agree with you lol… but you can still tell by Ariana’s voice that she is unnaturally raising her pitch which could potentially hurt her in the future..

@@EdwinaLiybaa Beyoncé has a bit of a rasp when she talks and Prince did not speak in a higher tone… so they don’t count lol… when it comes to MJ… he didn’t live very long to see how his career could have faded or ended when it came to his voice lol… but you could tell that at his last concert… his voice was beginning to have that vocal fry.
