With thanks to cameraman Connor
Footage of greater bilbies (Macrotis lagotis) at Arid Recovery Wildlife Reserve. Bilbies were once widespread across 70 per cent of mainland Australia. They were well known around Adelaide, especially in the city parklands, and were also recorded as living around Perth. By 1995 the bilby was classed as a threatened species, and was only found in arid regions. Once again, introduced feral cats and foxes pose a major threat to the bilby's survival.

Such a distinctive animal, they really hop with such character! I hope they can be reintroduced to roam naturally across the land in the future, without the perpetual threat of extinction looming, or the constant miss-mesh of the ecosystem

Hello Betula, they really are so special! Sad to think we have lost them from so many places.

We had Easter bilby chcolates for a while as an alternative to the Easter bunny, I really wish the idea was more successful these bilbies are far more beautiful.. and rare! Australia has around 100 million rabbits, a feral introduced species ☹

Hello Tas my friend, you are so right as usual - rabbits are a very poor substitute for our beautiful bilbies

The introduced species usually seem to come out on top (pythons and feral hogs in US to name just a couple). Your efforts are certainly appreciated!!!

Hello Judy, yes, too true unfortunately. Feral pigs are a particularly destructive invader of many lands. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

@@GubanaNatureRefuge You are very welcome, you should also look into Giant Short faced Kangaroos, Diprotodon and Dromornis. Most of these do appear on ancient aboriginal artwork.

I like to know about the central Australian dromedary camels.... It seem that rabbit, cat, fox and other evasive animal made a mess- such like Hawaii's mongoose and Also Caribbean mongoose problem- what to do what to do'
