I don’t care about what anybody says, this man has helped continue to bring Power Pop and indie sensibilities to the forefront in a world that increasingly cares less and less about the intricate workings of good song craft. To write for himself first and have others resonate instead of writing for the people directly is so vastly different.

This is how I want an album released - in a session like this.... almost every song is superior to the album version, and the vocals are amazing when they can hear themselves so better than a live performance. On top of that I suppose the songs are genius....
@bklmsoul4 жыл бұрын
woah! totally agree!

Yea, super performances. Usually bands have practiced songs from the album more and are better rehearsed, often even developing the song more than the album version. KEXP, KCRW, Levitation Sessions etc. are a few favorites. Growing up I think most people have this idea albums always sound better, very often because historically, live recordings are often recorded from some ones camcorder in the audience lol, reproducing a sound being blasted from a few huge speakers. And also because so many bands are drained of their artistic energy by mass-scale touring. As an adult I've spent nearly 15 years transitioning to a person who almost exclusively listens to these 'special' live performances -- special meaning when bands do them, it's often in their hayday and it also often comes out almost as a 2nd opportunity to write these songs they released before becoming perfectionists on them. When discovering new artists or music, I hardly get into albums anymore. And the more you're into experimental, raw or spontaneous musical art, generally the less desirable a formal album becomes for the appreciated person, anyway.

Kind of but also not. Zappa sounds didactic to me while Ariel is seductive. Ps. I see the Zappa stuff as a component of Ariel Pink's sound. Probably more important than I first thought.
