At that point, why not buy a husqvarna 701? Same power output, and 50-60kg less out of the factory. You can even go down from there.

Because its no comparison in reliability, build quality and in engine ride quality. The t7 is an off-road capable touring bike, the 701 is far from a touring bike. They are pita on the road

Doing this now with my beloved XT660Z. When I bought the bike I fouled myself by adding central stand, hard panniers, crash bars etc etc because I thought that was necessary. It turned the bike into an elephant and when I dropped it in the woods I barely couldnt lift it. Now I am stripping here down to a minimum and I have already saved more than 15 kilogram.

Fxxx. I have been around both dirt and street bikes since I was 14 and now 64 and the lengthier chain / wheel base / suspension trick is an eye opener for me. I have never heard of that before. And the lighter chain should also grab a little better performance and fuel saving. The Li batteries are a no brainer and I have been running them on my dirt and street bikes for about 5 + years and they are still going. I am no racer but just a reasonable competent rider and I got back onto the dirt about 10 years ago to do an East West desert run (Australia) with a group and so I bought a KLR650 to do that trip. I haven't done much in the last 3 or 4 years but now the T7 has got me interested in doing more and I will follow your build and swap the bush pig for a thoroughbred.. Thanks again

15.5lbs weight loss is pretty great. Especially if you consider how close you come to keeping the stock weight of the bike after you've strapped your camping stuff to it. Cheers!

I did the tail tidy and exhaust(Mivv Dakar; sounds awesome!). Stock header, but there's weight savings and power to be gained there(didn't want to tune the ECU/airbox). Removed the rear sets. Aftermarket pegs and skid plate. Took off the luggage racks that were on it from the previous owner. Made a world of difference to drop ~50lbs. Battery would be my next mod. The bike dances on the trails now. Goes wherever I point the front tire in a hurry. I've seen the pros run a single disc brake upfront to save weight and there's an aftermarket headlight kit which saves a sizeable amount of weight. However, I think the stock T7 headlights are super cool looking. I looked at carbon bars, but they seemed too pricey for what I could find but haven't checked the market in a year or so. Carbon wheels would be huge but only saw very expensive custom options last time I checked a year ago. Removing weight is the best mod imo as the T7's weight can be a handful for how capable of an off-road bike it is. Pol Tarres went to the extreme of removing the console, titanium nuts/bolts and carbon body work as well.

Battery & stock exhaust are the heaviest on any bike, a simple weight reduction (if you have the extra cash for a good exhaust). Nice trick with the extended chain ;)

@@user-vx8gn6nd8jere are plenty of options but I guess some trash out there. Just dig around a bit. I will vouch on both the weight saving and also the battery performance. Had my bike laid up a while and the lead acid went bad so took a leap on a costlier lithium type.. it's got juice still to start the bike long after I expected a lead acid battery to . Usually when left to stand a few months a lead acid battery is somewhat tired. It can be revived but... They are still heavy. Its worth a punt is what I say

@MotologyFilms Adam, great tips as usual 👌💯 My 890 is stripped well back, it tips the scales at 195 with 10ltrs of fuel (just tools/first aid kit on board, no luggage) After experimenting with soft panniers and other bags i hated the pendulum effect when hanging the arse end out, it just spoiled a good bike. So i took advice from one of your videos and the luggage is trimmed right down to 15-17kg depending on summer or extras for winter. It all rides mid bike in saddlebags below the seat line (only really light bags up top) All sits nice and central with a low C of G, it drifts nicely without the arse feeling like a wrecking ball. The biggest savings were wheels, brakes, full Ti exhaust, ti footpegs and lipo battery. The rest was removing trim parts, rear pegs, redundant brackets, less cable ties and the use of Ti and aluminium fasteners. The difference between the stock rear wheel/E07+ and a MX wheel (billet hub with excel rim) with enduro tyre and HD tube was 5.3kg saving alone. Obviously varies with the tyre brand and type. With the wheelbase fully forward the spring was on the soft side but with the extra preload became a bit harsh higher in the stroke. Two more links added when i changed the gearing and the extra leverage has allowed a heavier spring rate with less preload which feels way smoother through the stroke. Did it need all of this doing ? Nah, but there's something satisfying about farkling and seeing what does and doesn't work 😎

As cool as a T7 is, we arent all making our ADV bikes into dirtbikes. A T7 going down the hiway with it's 7" wide seat, and 65HP, can be a little underwhelming. Adam can do what he does on a Gold Wing if he had to, rider skill is by far the biggest factor.

Something to think of is money to weight ratio.. For example over 1100€ Akra to save 1,6kg.. 150€ battery to save 2,2kg.. 250€ chain and sprockets 100g + wheelbase mod.. approx. 1500€ for ~4kg..That money invested somewhere else may outperform these mods, maybe, maybe not? Moneywise the free tailtidy and battery has the best money to weight ratio, next easy and cheap step is the riders waist and training. Good stuff as always man! 👍

If u remove all of that u gonna lose 5 kg on the front part of the bike 🙌🏼

Love your work mate! Always to the point, educational and no BS. Any chance of getting a run down of your riding gear, protection etc for big adventures? It always seems like a tradeoff between full moto gear with limited abrasion resistance and then adventure gear that all seems bulky and heavy and designed for sitting down and riding easy.

I hope you took out the two bafles included in the akra. Gotta put holes in the carbon, then unlock then unscrew. Will take extra weight.

Guys on 890's take a disc off the front, no more 2 calipers, or two discs. Some say braking suffers quite a bit, some say its the same as before. Online goofballs. Some throw the gas tank away and mount a 2.5 gallon tank. They want their 890 to be a 450. Gotta lose over 200lbs to make it happen. I did the 525 to 520 chain swap on my DR650, even on that 35HP bike the smaller chain wore out in 10K miles at most, on a high dollar chain. There seemed to be direct correlation between a bigger chain lasting longer, and a smaller chain wearing out quicker. Who knew?

Good vid. Very well made. Clear both in presentation and visually. There still is more weight to loose. As much as I like the Akropovic exhaust I run a HP Corse full system which goes up the inside of the rear of the bike. It's lighter and tucked in. Power difference like the rest not so much. How about brake discs? Good job, appreciate your efforts and knowledge very much.

I was very surprised you @ARiemann1 didn't install a chain guide, as to not throw that 520 chain off if striking a rock. 🤔
