Dream machine really.

Go check out the Cub Cadet 3-stage track snow blower. It easily outperforms the Ariens. I only know this because my neighbor across the street has the Ariens Track and I have the C/C 3-stage 30" Track....and I've had to help him with the tough stuff.....(Ariens doesn't make a 3-stage machine)

Good question. I've been looking at one of these, and trying to figure out what conditions are ideal for "dig in" mode.

I think I need some sleep. At first I thought "dw" meant "darling wife," not "driveway." And I was thinking, "why is this guy snowblowing his wife?"

I found a source for non-ethanol 91 octane gas and it makes a world of difference in how my carbureted Ariens runs.

@@JuniorFan08, yes I strictly run "non-ethanol 92 octane" in all my small motors. But I actually spend the money for VP Small engine "non-ethanol" 94 octane fuel for my snowblower. It says you can leave it up to 2+ years in the tank with no added fuel stabilizer. It's not cheap, by no means, but my snowblower doesn't get used all that much so I don't mind spending the extra money for this fuel. It's worked great, even after a full year. 1 pull, starts right up. Now I can't do this for my lawn equipment because I'd go broke, so I use the local gas station "non-ethanol 92 octane" fuel and add fuel stabilizer to it just for good measure. I NEVER use ethanol containing gas. It's not worth the repairs and problems it creates.

I've seen several people on the Snowblower forums with EFI, and trust me, you are almost certainly better off with the carb. EFI on small engines is prone to problems and difficult if not impossible for a DIY'er to fix. These are machines that can last 2-3 decades or more, so keeping it simple is best. I have been using E10 gas with Seafoam added in all my small engines for over 20 years now and I have never had fuel system issues during that time. Keeping it fresh and draining it in the offseason is far more important than the Ethanol content in a modern engine, IMO. That 94 octane gas may be doing more harm than good, these engines are designed for 87 octane. Higher octanes can cause them to run poorly and/or too hot.

Is 420cc, the track is best for a lot of snow and sloping roads

I have a Honda machine and one of the first mods recommended is rejetting. Honda tunes the AFR very lean to be 50 state emissions compliant. I suspect Ariens was able to get around running their machines lean by going the EFI route. Downside: I believe there is an extra battery that needs to be maintained with EFI- also not sure how familiar small engine mechanics are with this particular system.

@@chrisE815 Yes the EFI system uses a proprietary battery, and the system overall has frustrated many owners over on the snowblower forum. When it works it works great. When it doesn't, good luck. Personally I would steer clear of it. It's not like these engines are hard to start or poor performing with carbs. Snowblowers can last 20-30 years or more, keeping it simple will keep it reliable. Carbs are relatively easy to maintain and if you don't maintain them they are cheap to replace.

Honda HSS guy here arent hydroststic transmissions variable speed or do you have steps that fiix the viable speeds, on the Honda it is variable from forward max through stop through max reverse ..

ho valutato a lungo una honda ma l'innovativa gestione del cingolo rendono questa fresa pratica a maneggevole e con un motore davvero potente. inoltre ha 3 anni di gaaranzia sul motore e 5 sulla trasmissione, contro i 2 anni di honda. a parità di prestazioni la honda costa circa il doppo ma con la gestione del camino elettronica...

Not a chance. You've fallen victim to marketing BS. There is a reason why even Cub Cadet doesn't use their own "3- stage technology" on their Heavy Duty line.

@@plmn93 The orginal 3 stage was nice, but somewhere down the line, CC started using cheap parts or materials. You are likley to go through 2-3 sheer pins a season. I just sold my 2016 CC for $825 and am getting the Kraken.
