Part 1: • Aries Spears on Man Tr...
--------
In this clip, Aries Spears discusses Chris Tucker's career, specifically how 'Money Talks' is seen as the best film of his career, with 'Friday' also being noted as a comedy classic. However, after 'Money Talks' and the first 'Rush Hour,' it was noted that Tucker somewhat disappeared from the scene and started focusing more on his faith, being a born-again Christian. It was also suggested that if Tucker had stuck to comedy like Kevin Hart, he could have been one of the biggest stand-ups in the world. The interview also explores the diverse cultural exposure of Aries, who grew up in an apartment building in Manhattan, was exposed to jazz and blues through his mother, and developed a love for movies through his father.

I really appreciated what he was saying at the end and it shows how real Aries is, it’s like so many black ppl are conditioned into thinking that their blackness is tied to growing up in the hood and taking pride in growing up in the worse environments, which there’s nothing wrong with taking pride in where you come from and overcoming certain circumstances and adversity but often you see a lot of us black ppl really wanna push how hard our cities are to live in and have an ignorant pride in it it’s refreshing to hear a black man be able to say they grew up poor but not necessarily grew up in the hood and they such a hard nigga because of it and be so super tough I fw that

nothing wrong with taking pride in where you come from. it just shows how resilient we are. be it the "hood" "ghetto" "projects" "trailer park" "bottoms" "suburbs" "the hills." I am the sum of my experiences. By and large, society has been conditioned to shi$ on those who were tracked into the projects by design. Very few, if any, resources as compared to the more affluent counterpart. Better schools, nutrition, community services etc... lets not discuss how drugs were placed into the ghettos by our very own government. apparently only after the opioid epidemic we now know what drugs can do to families. diamonds are cut in the "hood." I mean that metaphorically.
@KenLahne2
@KenLahne2 6 ай бұрын
I disagree. I just have a different perspective. Some of the worlds best have come from what we call the "hood." Thought leaders, artists, poets, authors, activists, titans of industry, scholars, entertainers, athletes, physicians, venture capitalists, theologians, scientists (in no particular order of importance) despite every conceivable obstacle being placed before them. That my friend is not "ignorant" pride. In the pejorative sense. The very definition of pulling oneself up by the bootstraps.@@JaiAnt-ry1dw

Money Talks is one of my top 50 lists of that genre of movie - the comedy/action stuff! Great cast for Tucker to bounce his timing off of and he and Charlie Sheen had good chemistry and those scenes between Tucker and Paul Sorvino were magic - “Vic Damone’s son with Diahann Carroll…”🤣😂- the movie had that quintessential L.A. flair to it - (reminded me of my L.A. days)😃

I remember having to force myself to make it through Chris’ Netflix special a few years ago. As a fan, I felt that I HAD to make it from start to finish. Shoot, I remember saying that Chris could spend 3+ hours telling Michael Jackson stories and fans would love it. I know I would because those tales showed the people Michael the man rather than MJ the icon. On top of that, you could tell that Tucker was a genuine friend to the King of Pop.

He went from an underground low-budget hood movie (Friday) to a major spot in Money Talks with A-lister Charlie Sheen. The only way that it was possible for him to do that was to go through a "humiliation ritual" like 99% of black actors/actresses had to go through. He had to play a cross-dresser in The Fifth Element in order to get the big roles in future films.

He did Money Talks and The 5th element in 97. He had already been in a few movies including Friday, Dead Presidents and house party 3.

That is a damn hard and crazy decision to have to make, and I don't think a lot of ppl really appreciate that. But kudos to Chris Tucker, but yeah, he will always be a "what could have been..."

He didn’t grow up in the hood but still generalises the mentality of people that grew up in the hood….make it make sense
