Hey jesse hope you're good , some facts about this performance and your discussion : • It's a semiclassical song orignally but Arijit changed the composition and the music was also composed by him specifically for this MTV tour just to make that song more appealing in concert • The one you mentioned scatting , it was sargam ...Actually there is no western word for Sargam, sargam is when you sing the 7 notes Sa re ga ma pa dha ni Sa in a certain arrangement and rhythm. These are called Do re mi fa so la ti do in the west and Idk what it will be called if you sing these notes super fast but arranged in a certain way • Sargam in live with such a huge arrangemnet & crowd is very difficult ..that too at high notes it was beautiful ....only highly indian classical music trained singers can perform like this

my comment is late i guess, but yes he took part in a reality show way back..judges told him a couple of times like his journey in the music industry will be awesome but yes just like most judges say this to almost all the contestants.. he was in the top 7 and got eliminated but he kept working hard on his vocals, doing some assistant in the studio making musics for years and years and finally "Ashiqi 2" song was a big break for him and since then he didnt look back.. gave back to back hit songs..He is now the most loved, most humble and highest paid singer in India.

What you call scatting, was the pure classical music notes which the musicians who know Classical music sing to showcase their vocal ability. He was singing these notes in different arrangements.

That thing you said about Indian culture not hating on artists is sadly far from reality today like in case of any other country! We do "worship" our artists, especially the seemingly "apolitical" ones but the present climate has gotten worse. We are becoming a very intolerant society. It's almost like we are trying to find reason to hate on people and pull people down, especially if they happen to have an opinion different from our's! Arijit is one of the very few who has managed to evade hatred to a lot of extent atleast till now! I hope we become a more mature society and revert back to the time when unity in diversity truly prevailed to some extent and people were not targetted just because they happened to have an opinion!
