no structure can exist without its constituent elements. They always remain present in the structure in any condition, that's why they are essential and called constituent.

Depends on the structure and the constituents

@@RajinderKumar-gt9qr first of all we are talking about art which is mostly subjective and constituents and structure depends from person to person and for constituent point. For example - if we have polygon of 1 lakh sides it will be a Circle for a layman eye and even if you remove 1side that's the constituent part of it, it will still look and feel circle to anyone

Structure doesn't depend upon the perception. We should know Aristotle's position which is very significant. That is ---------'-the structural union of the parts being such that, if anyone of them is displaced or removed, the whole will be disjointed and disturbed. For a thing whose presence or absence makes no visible difference, is not an organic part of the whole.' Chapter 8, Poetics. S H Butcher.

There is a book published in Punjabi language (2018) new reading of Aristotle's Poetics. Review of the book is available on Literary Voice, March 2021 issue. This book approaches Poetics differently.

Respected Professor, there are eight elements of the tragedy which are prescribed by Aristotle himself and these are ; plot, character, thought, diction, song, action/ dramatic ( Bywater) in the definition and music, spectacle in chapter 26. First six are taken from epic/ literature and next two from the performance of tragedy. He was defining tragedy as art of literature and confine them to six but intermingled the both. Scholars reduced the elements of epic to four after scraping song and spectacle. This is the wrong equation. Epic has also six elements ; plot, character, thought, diction , song, and narrative. In six elements of tragedy prescribed by Aristotle and four elements for epic by scholars have nothing related to manner of imitation. Actually this is 8-2=6 , not 6-2=4.

Definition of tragedy made by Aristotle is actually definition of epic/ literature and it has nothing to do with art of drama. He doesn't succeed in differentating drama from the art of Literature. All the three aspects; object , medium and manner are the same in both which is not possible.
