This really has me worried. I'm a week from finishing the Arizona academy. I'm committed to doing a good job no matter what. I've got personal integrity. If I saw that guy having a heart attack I'd have called 911 myself. If a guy gets his meal thrown in a toilet I'm gonna get him another one. I hope that bullshit doesn't happen on my watch, I'm not gonna stand for it no matter what.

To everyone that replied to me, thank you. Your responses gave me insight. I'm going to enforce the regs but I will always treat inmates as human beings who deserve respect. I'm not in this to punish anyone, being locked up is the punishment. If you're under my watch you will be treated with respect and always get everything you are supposed to get. My word.

You did make a difference in the man dying's life dude. You were the last kind soul to talk to him. That's so cruel. They are like that in some jails too. The fact that you have the empathy to see he could change and that he had a kid and family that cared about him just like you guys have and cops have. And the other guards couldn't handle that. They are blind. And you could actually tell the difference between a good guard and basically a Nazi.

to all those people who are all about punishment id like to ask : does it make us better then them, if we treat them like animals for doing something wrong? or should we set an example as to how a person should act: show respect to everyone, treat everyone decently in every situation, try to defuse and comunicate... were supposed to be correcting them, by doing to them, what we tell them not to do to others..

If prisons aren't regulation and inmates don't feel safe while doing their time, me personally if I got caught up on some minor bullshit (or otherwise for that matter) I feel like i'd have the right to refuse incarceration for safety of my life! If i buy faulty or rotten goods from a store I have a guarentee from certain governing bodies but if i get locked up there's no guarentee i'll survive the ordeal because the governing bodies aren't making sure camera's are working aren't checking security and aren't investigating CO's who are repeatedly being flagged for negligence and misconduct and mainly because they feel inmates deserve whatever happens to them for breaking the law and treating them as second class citizens if citizens at that. Amongst the killers and chomos there are also a lot of involuntary man slaughters and dudes getting hemmed up for sleeping with chicks they meet at club, basically folks that are really in there on some bullshit. Any prison sentence is essentially a death sentence and I feel like i'd strongly protest being locked up for any amount of time based on this.

Man that is horrifying!! They could've saved that man's Life!! I live in Columbus Ohio. We have a jailhouse on Jackson Pike (we call it the workhouse) and they're just the same.. one time I was in there, a woman fell off the top bunk when they called for breakfast, when she fell off she hit her head and went into a seizure... Yo, them deps finished serving breakfast before they called for help, and then stood at the door with a camera held up to the window recording this woman for 45 minutes. This woman passed away, and those of us that tried helping the woman before she passed were all in trouble after they came in... Another 50 minutes after she'd passed away. When they came in to remove her, they pulled her out by her greens and left her body laying in the hallway for 2 more hours!! They give no fucks. Another time I was in there, I went into labor and had to sit for about 3 hours before they believed that I was actually in labor( and I was bleeding severely during those 3 hours) ... While I was laying on the metal table waiting to be transferred to the hospital, the 3 women in the office were talking about another inmate that had passed away the previous day, and how no one gave a shit because hey.. he was an inmate, and no one gives a damn about him, he's a junkie and his family will be better off without his weight on their shoulders (their words) and how about 200 people die per month I think while in the workhouse. Something has to change.

Here in a place called brown county, we have an INSANELY CORRUPT jail. Its doors dont shut. They shut the place down for the doors to he fixed. They literally oiled them up, painted them, put new numbers on the door with spray paint, and called it good. All an inmate has to do is put a book or paper in between the door and doorjamb. It's a long hallway ×3 with a crash gate at the end for the c.os to look down and be safe. Then the rest is inmates cells and a day room. Its 20 lock down 4 rec. Mind you, its stacked up to where people are sleeping on top of each other on the floor of the day room, almost LITERALLY. They sleep in boats to stay dry, because the showers are in there, with no ventallation, so it rains for 4 hours a day for some people, and all day and night for others, in about 70% of the room. Which is about 20 ft by 12 foot, with two tables (8 combined seats at them) and filled with about 20 sweaty, aggressive men, wet and sick. Its FUCKED. The inmates can do what they want obviously. There are cameras, but only in about 20% of the inmate area. You can get simple comicary items like snack cakes and chips, sausages, cards and hygiene products. You get one set of stripes, one pair of tighty whiteys, and a pair of socks. oneblanket, one small sheet, and one mat that is the exact size of 4 lines on a sheet of notebook paper. Which your clothes are changed out every 4 DAYS!!!!!! Its COLD. Like, frost INSIDE of the windows. It's a place you never been, and never want to go. The people inside WISH AND BEG to go to prison just to get out of the place. Dont even get me started on the small town, closed loop "justice" center in thisplace. ... Or the comicary being fucked with way harder than what this dude said. Or the C.Os hopping in the cell to scrap with the inmates. Brown county Ohio baby.

My father has been in and out of prison for a total 12 going on 16 years. My dad suffers from bipolar disorder, substance addiction, and other mental disorders. They locked him up in Clifton Az, Greenlee county and they charged him so much money for medical for his asthma and mental illness. I ended up paying for it all (I'm a 22 year old single mother) my dad didn't even know why they took his money he was crying and yelling confused and upset and I could hear the guard degrading him and yelling at him. I spoke at his sentencing asking for mental health or rehab services and the judge looked me in the eyes and said "I hear what you're saying but no." Now he's serving 6 more years after serving 5 for the exact sentence. Just recharging him for breaking probation and running out of state from paranoia. He would call me in the middle of the night saying the cops were going to take him away and eventually it scared him so bad he really did leave...

I am currently a correctional police officer at the Essex county jail in Newark New Jersey. CO’s are always getting assaulted, inmates getting stabbed every week. The jail conducts no type of security checks. No rules are inforced, inmates run the jail and corrections officers don’t have each other’s back. Supervisors don’t have your back and always undermined the officers and let the inmates get away with everything. I have inmates in my jail that were in Rikers island and they say Rikers and Essex county are exactly the same. I don’t know how long I’ll continue to be a CO. It’s a real shitty job.

Law enforcement jobs just by their very nature are always gonna very appealing to the insecure weirdo rage filled masochist-types, which unfortunately leads to punisher fuckwits being disproportionally represented in virtually every agency. You can go on with good intentions, but you'll get weeded out in due time. Your never gonna be able to get large amounts of good people entering any career in which the objective it to dominate and belittle others. Those jobs are run by the wife beater crowd, it's a fuckin fact.

I was on a dorm style yard and we had 7 dorms that held about 50-70 people per dorm. The amount of drugs there was insane. You wouldn’t even have to get off your rack, bed, to get anything. People would just come to you and ask if you needed anything. The yard was a freaking joke and I’m glad I’m out of there.

He was originally in maricopa county/ tent city on some bullshit resisting arrest and drug charges and he stabbed up some dude and caught additional charges and was reclassified level 5 and sent to florence where from what I heard he just put in work non stop. He was in florence from like 2004-2009. He would have been one amazing interview for u man but unfortunately, he's dead, he died shortly after being released in 2009. Even if he didn't die he wasn't gonna have a happy ending he was about to be indicted by the feds on weapons charges and conspiracy- he just died before they formally charged him.

Checkin in from da 623 !! My man is in prison here in AZ .... This dude knows what he is talkin bout my man is not in florence, however where he is, they see the same type shit going on... and those sack meals are a joke.... my man tells me what they had to eat the days that we talk (not everyday cuz it is hella expensive) anyways yeah they have potpies alot... and my ,an says that the `meat` they are served is not REAL meat, it is imitation meat!! And on the boxes/packages it states `Not For Human Consumption` ORRRRR `For Animal and Inmate Consumption Only` !!!!! .... I understand that majority of the folks in prison are guilty of breaking the law .... Ok ya find em guilty and sentence em COOL !!! HOWEVER the are still humans who need to be treated accordingly! They deserve to be fed food that is actually for HUMAN consumption not some unknown so called slop that NO ONE truly knows what is in the stuff, and they deserve to have food that is NOT EXPIRED!!!! They deserve at the very least basic medical care, programs to rehabilitate them, support programs, AA and NA programs, programs to help them better their life while in there serving their time, being able to get their GED, programs to teach them a trade whether it be Computer programming, culinary arts, computer programmer, medical coding, and etc etc ... allow these folks to better themselves so when they are released they areable to use the knowledge and etc they learned while down to help them now while back in society so they can have the best chance and the ability to NOT RETURN AND BE ABLE TO STAY OUT OF PRISON!!! ... BUT we all know they WANT folks to fail and return because it lines their pockets and provides them a way to vacay in The Bahamas, Barbados, Dubai, buy themselves a yaught, a bigger home, more vehicles, and add more money to their already comfy savings acct and etc etc ! They do not want thesefolks to get out and turn their lives around becausHello they need folks to break the laws, so they do not have to work themselves for what they want, why work your ass off when ya can jus cut everything in the budget down to less than bare minimum and then use all the money you took away from every place possible in the prisons and fill up ya pockets with taxpayer's hard earned money while pretending and lying to everyone saying ya using every single penny on NEEDED items, staff, and etc........ IT IS ALLLLLLL BULLSHIT LIES, SCEMES, SCAMS, AND FRAUD, meanwhile treatin the human beings who for the most part are good people who made mistakes, got tangled up in drugs, alcohol, couldn't pay court fees, couldn't get a job, pissed dirty, late to see PO, or etc etc.... most folks in prison are ya average person who got caught up in the wrong crowd, got into doing the wrong things, basically went down the wrong path in their life.... yes there are exceptions to everything... reguardless of EVERYTHING ......AMERICA DESPERATELY NEEDS TO REFORM OUR WHOLE ENTIRE JUSTICE SYSTEM PERIODDDDDD!!!

I was a CO at Eyman Browning unit, and I use to do OT at SMU 1 where this guy worked. Some of what he's saying is partially correct, but overall he comes across as a CO that wants to be liked by inmates. I can attest to the fact that the prison is understaffed, and the state hires the bottom of the barrel staff and underpays them. I resigned because 3/4 of the inmates, and half the staff are scum with no moral code. What he said regarding the reason for staff assaults is mostly a lie. Unprovoked, the inmates like to "throw" on staff. To "throw" means to toss everything from food to feces and blood on innocent staff. Inmates also like to "fish" you by sending bleeding heart staff on mindless errands. When the inmate doesnt get his medical, or whatever he needs outside of a CO's sphere of control, he takes it out on the CO. After a diet of lies, abuse & deception from inmates, many staff stop caring. Dont get me wrong, there are lots of crap CO's but which came first, the chx or the egg? Thats why ilI resigned. I refused to forfeit my humanity & abuse inmates with the rage i was developing. Stop making it seem as if the bullies, rapists, and murderers all go to jail & become victims. Life is much more nuanced. Im not saying CO's never "kickstart" issues cause that would be a lie. But I hate when inmates automatically get the victin exemption when it comes to CO's. Between the inmates gaming the system, the wardens office trying to avoid lawsuits, the gov't cutting budgets, and the staff caught in the middle, nobodies innocent, accept ex-CO's.
