The grate is the most vulnarable element in a gasifier. It tends to block after some hours run, resulting in presure drop and bad breathing of the gasifier thus less gasproduction. Special grate designs, grate shakers can be a solution. However when burning woodchips for a long time there are impurety's such as nails, stones and clinker, that even can block the best of grates. We tried a different aproach with our grateless designs. An updraft design and a downdraft. The downdraft here shown, is based on the suspension principle. Gassing up to the limit the finest elemenst goes in suspencion with the gasstream and are evacuated out of the gasifier. Of cours this put a bigger strain on the cyclon and filter. As you have seen in the video the filter collapsed. But handling dust and soot is better doable. We already designed a new cyclone, wich we hope to show in teh next video. The gasifier itself is not show here complete. A sensor to feel the level of gassed out charcoal and the preheating of clean gas inside the gasifier are ready but not yet mounted.
