Hello guys! Long time no see :D
Sorry for disappearing for half a year! I got a little of a character development arc to do xD
So here it is. Arturia Giallo's Cello. Custom handmade by me, BeweNNN.
I felt like going all out on this one, so I lit up an Originate prime, got high, and decided to build this Cello in real life. To make things crazier, i used real life parts to built it.
Anyway, hope yall have a good time enjoying the currently ongoing event, Zwilingstürme im Herbst!

as a violin player when you get brand new bow's you need to rosin it. You will be able to use a violin bow on a cello but without a body it wont make barely any noise. I dont think you will get a very loud noise at all just because of: the neck being too far from the strings and having no body which reverberates the sound. If you found a way to make this into an electric instrument and fixed the previous issues it would work fine though (: (P.S you dont need a body on full body on an electric instrument) Hope this is useful still looks fantastic.

Damn bro, i didn’t know you also play violin! Ah, so i need to minimize the distance between the neck/fingerboard and the strings? 🤔 i think i can model a smaller bridge real quicc. And yeah, by design there’s no way this thing would reverberate sound. the electric conversion is something ppl have been talking about, and i think it’s defo worth the shot. Anyway, i appreciate your time writing this feedback :D

@@BeweNNNdefo need rosin, rosin basically makes the bow stick to the strings a bit which means it'll vibrate. Cello rosin would probably work best as it's stickier so it can work for thicker strings. Without the body you won't get much sound anyway tho :/ whatever volume you got while plucking is about the same or a bit softer than what you'd get with a bow, if you need a reference. Btw I couldn't tell in the video if you tightened it but make sure you loosen your bow if you did, otherwise it might break overnight

@@BeweNNN pretty much what wpunlucky said. You want rosin on the bow to 'grab' the strings, but without a resonance chamber in the body, it still won't make much noise. Making the crescent part hollow /might/ create a resonance chamber, but it probably wouldn't be large enough to have any deep/rich undertones, plus resin/PLA probably doesn't have the resonance that wood would. Still, an amazing-looking piece, congrats!

I'm a native Austrian, until you said the name of the event I somehow gaslit myself into believing that instead of "Twin Towers in Autumn (Zwillingstürme im Herbst)" it was called "Twin *Storms* in Autumn (Zwillingsstürme im Herbst)"

For a little more context (I don't know if you've played the event/read the story), Zwillingstürme is actually the name of the city the event takes place in, almost certainly named for the two large towers at its centre the Empresses live in. While I'm not sure how much sense that it makes as a name for a city, it might make the name of the vent make a little more sense.

2 things. Any stringed instrument needs something to resonate the sound. So it either needs a sound box acoustic or an amplifier for electric. You’d need to make sure the bridge can also carry the sound correctly to get the right notes. Violin bow sounds like it had no rosin so yeah it wouldn’t have made any sound regardless. It’s a tree sap resin to add grit to the bow hairs so they’ll grip the strings.

Ah okay it makes sense now. Well this design has no soundbox so resonance is basically nonexistent. Guess we‘re going electric Now for the bridge, what does it mean to “carry the sound correctly”?🤔 im still clueless lol And for the bow it took me a few comments to realise it. Yup it’s shining new, and i had no clue it had to be rosined. Ill go try the suggestions. Thanks so much for the tip! :D

This is legitimately one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Imagine if someone carried this for their Arturia cosplay and actually started performing. That'd be so cool. Hopefully you turn it into an electric cello so that you can actually produce sound without needing to figure out the body situation. Anyway, amazing job making this. Kudos to you sir.

The king is back. Actually thank you so much for making these dude, it's crazy inspirational. I recently started working on Surtr's sword using your STL. A lot of print failures, but a lot of things I've learned from them. Only got the wide bit on the hilt left to go! (Before connecting, sanding, painting, etc. 😭)

@@BeweNNN It shouldn't be an issue with your parts, I just had some settings I needed to correct (or things I didn't know existed I now use). We have the same printer, and I'm having a lot more success now that I actually know what I'm doing. Again, thank you very much!

As a former Cello and Violin player, this was really fun to watch. Some parts are too far away, only the neck and the finger board as far as I can tell. I really recommend trying to tune it a bit, even if it has no proper body. There is a technique where you don't need a bow, called Pizzicato. Which. Your bow problem (as someone else already has mentioned) is… bare bones. You need some rosin coating for it to work properly. xD But FYI, the music could be a bit quieter, especially since you're talking over it. Besides some of the inaccuracies, this is one sick build. Congrats for pulling it off. The montage at the end was dope 👌

Thanks! Glad you liked it :D Sorry i still don’t get what you mean by the neck and fingerboard being too far away. Do you mean the distance between the string and the fingerboard? 🤔 Ahh yes, the bow. I didnt know how it works. But i know now. I’ll try it soon :) Oh i guess i could also do something about yhe music. As a cello and violin player, i put my trust on you. Appreciate your feedback:D

Arturia probably has her Arts Unit fitted to it as an amp, you need to use an electric amp unless you're a caster lmao.

Yeah im a vanguard built. My alter is prolly a fast redeploy so its no wonder :v I do have a guitar amp, and others have said a piezo might help, so guess ill give it a try

Arturia's cello is what modern electric cellos are. Just get a pickup, fix the strings, and you're all set. And if you want to give Arturia PTSD and have Federico after your hiney, hook up some distortion kit used in electric guitars with it.

Yeah apparently..... 2 things: 1. I bought a brand new violin bow, which apparently had to be "rosined" to grip the strings better. 2. Your guess was correct. It lacks a body that amplifies the sound. But we can fix that by going electric

@@BeweNNN I have ideas to forge it from metal and adding on features to make it actually functional, but at the same time I’ve only ever forged weapons, tools, and some pieces of armor, so the main frame wouldn’t be too hard, it’s only the instrument part that I am not too well versed in, I’ve played violin before and I kinda understand the concept of upsizing to cellos, it’s just the execution of it

Looks sick! Can I ask, why not use glue or other adhesive alternatives? I think it'd make the connections look cleaner or will that somehow affect the performance?

That's a good question! Back then i used epoxy glue. It was ok, but it costs me about 10 euros extra per project. With plastic welding, you can simply use print residue (eg. supports, failed prints) so IMO that's better in the cost department. Also the fact that they took a while to cure, which kinda made it hard if you have to hold parts in a certain position. With welding, it's pretty much instantaneous, and took only a few seconds for the parts to be fused together. And even though it was much cleaner, i did have a minor groove it left behind when sanded. Performance wise, with epoxy glue, It feels stretchier, and more elastic, but one time i bent it sideways, and it didn't take much for the glue to lose grip and opened a little hole. And this bothered me for a while. Meanwhile with welding, it's pretty much tougher, and is decently ductile (probably because it's a fusion of it's own material), but probably won't take impact load as good as epoxy glue. So yeah hope this helps :)
