This is a fan edit/animation using a scene from Transformers Armada episode 32 "Past II".
My intention with this project was to replicate the original G1 cartoon effect of Optimus Prime's iconic mouthplate moving up and down while he spoke and Wheeljack's flashing "ears" when he spoke on Armada Optimus Prime and Blurr, respectively, using a particularly well drawn scene.
This fan project is created for entertainment, education, and fun! I claim no ownership over anything contained within it. All credit goes to the respective owners/creators. Please support the official product.

Alternatively, let Wheeljack's mouthplate stay stationary, and his ears do the indication for time he speaks

@@PolarityOfNeoSoulCity Ah yes. That's correct. There's also Machine Robo Cronos where most characters would have their eyes or visors light up when they speak. Has Star Saber ever moved his mouthplate? I don't think so. I guess Magnus is gonna have to do that too.

@@TheLVJ It wasn't the Japanese studio's fault, it was Hasbro's because they wanted a product launch ahead of Japan's and before any episodes finished production.

Honestly, I kinda wish they did this. THe moving mouth piece and flashing lights added to the aesthetic. They were still alien robots with their own means and methods of emoting.

As someone who watched this as my first Transformers series. As I got older, I realized that many faults and improvements should have done Hasbro's way. Thankfully, we have the technology to do some work and gotta say. This looks good.

It's cause most of the animation errors and dub errors were a result of CN demanding the first half of the show to be completed before they approve the entire series and thus, the first half was very rushed and had all those problems I mentioned. Fortunately the second half was much better and the animation was closer to the Japanese version and looked a lot cleaner and had less errors overall.

I think it’s moving just a tiny bit too much. Possibly reduce the range slightly.

Thanks! I totally agree with you and a bunch of other people who had similar suggestions. Once I got it rendered and on some different screens, I noticed the front view especially was slightly too exaggerated for what I was aiming for. This was my first time trying to actually animate anything, so it was very much just a give it a try and see how it looks kind of project.

I think giving Optimus an indication he is talking is a good thing, but I think perhaps a slightly more subtle degree movement would be better? just watching it bounce up and down with no in-between frames is a little jarring, especially on the profile shots

I totally agree with you. Once I got it rendered and on some different screens, I noticed it was a bit too exaggerated for what I was initially aiming for. I shouldn't have moved the mouthplate quite as far when redrawing the new frames and some slight variations might help with the stiff look too. This was my first time trying to actually animate anything, so it was very much just a try it and see how it looks kind of project.

@@MagnusPrime85 Thats fair, we all gotta start somewhere. That said, I'm surprised anyone cared enough about Amada to even try something like this. Don't get me wrong, I loved Amada, but its fairly slept on compared to other transformer series.

@@MagnusPrime85 Oh yeah, I think its great, especially the characterization of the general cast, adding depth to characters like Starscream and even Megatron, and how it played with the tropes of the wider franchise. Shame the sequel series Energon was sorta a letdown.

Now that’s more like it, if you have a character with a mask/mouthguard, then move it as they speak, simple. I have an OC that has an audio visualizer on her face mask, and it moves when she speaks. Now, i just need to figure out how to animate it

I definitely like it. The only thing is our mouths don’t move the same amount for every word and I’m assuming his mask would be a similar situation otherwise there’s no point in it moving. Basically I’m just being super nitpicky but I reckon if you had some version of his mouth moving that move less than the full mouth movement right now and then sprinkle that difference in between the frames you have right now I think it would be absolutely perfect. But of course I’m just passing through, you need not listen to me if you don’t want to.

a bit more work & you'll have it. hard to say with just text but more sliding(straight) less flap(lid like) & as for the lights dont just have them blink while talking, match with the words. again wish i could put this better. 👍

Thanks, I digitally redrew all of the necessary frames of animation and then tried my best with the timing to match the voices and make it look as natural as possible.

It’s rough and a bit jarring, could use either a smoother transition or more subtle movement. I don’t share the same thoughts as the others here and don’t see this as an improvement on what the show already portrayed.

You know, I’ve watched all of Victory and don’t think I ever took note of his mouthplate not moving. Prime’s always bothered me bc of how much I loved that effect in the G1 cartoon. Might be interesting to explore someday.

@@bluestreakmike3800 I grew up watching Armada and still love it, despite its many flaws. The first season can be a little slow, but don’t give up on it. Season 2 picks up, Season 3 gets even better, and the Unicron Battles are amazing!

Honestly I prefer Armada Blurr over all the other incarnations. He doesn’t have a mouth, he talks at a much slower pace, and is more serious and levelheaded than his peers. I honestly can stand the irritating motor mouths of G1 and Animated Blurr, makes me wanna scream, “BLURR, SHUT UP ALREADY!!!!!”
