15 жыл бұрынThe Armatron is a toy from the 1980s made by TOMY and distributed by Radio Shack (Tandy in Belgium). It consisted of a crane-like arm with two attached joysticks which could be manipulated to pick up small objects. It is essentially similar to industrial robots of the 1980s, though it is strictly user-controlled, with no automation built in...
So fun... and so 80's ;-)

I had this. It was loud as hell. And I found out by mistake that putting the batteries in wrong reversed the controls -- something I had never seen before in any electronic gadget.

Yeah this reply is 11 years later... but I had a toy truck like that. It just went forward unless you put the battery in backwards.

The beauty of it, is that it's a single motor running, and the controls are purely mechanical gears. It's a small, beautiful feat of engineering.

I had one of those when I was a kid. Played with it for a few days before it got boring but it looked so cool I was always proud to display it front and center.

This was one of, if not my favorite toy from way back when. The Armatron, combined with G.I. Joe figures, made my playtime the absolute BEST!

....reliving a childhood christmas, so I pulled mine out to play, but its not working....going to dive in and find the problem. This and the Frogger mini arcade game was my favorite xmas gift for years...lololol

funny thing is we have a stockpile of these in my mechanisms class, we had to take them apart find out how they work, count the gear teeth and reassemble them correctly and right now writing my report lol

Lol..., In my college, we had to disassemble it and reassemble it. Kinda sad that majority of them were in horrible condition and rarely any of them moved as smoothly as this one. In fact the Armatron assigned to me turned out working better after the reassembling. xD

My Brother and I both had one of these, till I too disassembled mine to see how it worked. My Bro, now 36 still has his in perfect condition stored away.

I tore the guts out of mine and replaced them with 6 electric motors controlled by an interface and an old Vic 20...still have it

Hi.. I need some advice please. i have one that needs a new motor.. i have found the correct 3v motors online BUT they have dofferent RPM rates... i dont want to try one with an RPM that is too high... does anyone know the RPM of the original motor in the ARMATRON.. thank you

@izzynobre That is because there was no electronics in it. Just motors directly connected to batteries via the control switches.

My parents said I had a whopping 35 bucks to spend for Christmas. This was my choice. Until I tore it apart to see how it worked. Still can't believe there is only one motor to do all the movements. Got get to eBay and by another one.

Still have mine. Wicked cool toy from back when they still made such awesome toys, and when Radio SHack was more than just a store for mobile phones and over-prices batteries. Did you buy yours later since you still have the box and acessories?
