Many said the new figure was better so I got the new figure and it has the same range of motion problems. They fixed the issue with the torso falling off however. But when trying to do my first pose, the head and fingers and forearm would constantly be popping off. So you still have to pose it carefully. When comparing the A9RIGS I forgot to mention that they are based on real-world human and animal proportions, unlike SB which is quite cartoony. But perhaps the most important difference is that the A9RIGS are built to match the prevalent 1-6 and 1-12 doll market scale conventions. This means you can also buy countless accessories, props, vehicles and clothing online from other doll makers and they will fit our figures well. Here is my blog post featuring A9 versus a number of other dolls as well: armaturenine.wordpress.com/2017/02/05/ranger-vs-the-competition/ And a photo gallery on facebook featuring all other dolls as well: facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1638515729508202&type=3

Realistic proportions are a huge positive and what an art mannequin should be used for-getting poses and exact proportions in 3D. Normally, it takes a lot of time to measure realistic proportions, so your figure is a great help. StickyBones can pose better than an average wooden "art mannequin," but it still doesn't help with the issue of bad proportions. So for artists (people who draw, to be more exact), I wouldn't pick anything else. I don't think you have any real competition quality-wise, although some competition is positive and natural.

Just FYI, that looks like an older version of the StickyBones figure. I have one and love it. I never had issues with it's joints popping out or anything. Yes, the figures pop out pretty easily, but it's also less tension which allows for easy posability.

Thanks for weighing in. I believe the newer versions are only different in color, not design. But let me know if you have the same problem with the lower spine joint and fingers popping off? What about the magnets on the feet. Did they fix the caps not holding them in properly?

@@TheFlashStickman Good to know. It might be one of those issues where some figures come with issues and others do not (irregularities in the manufacturing) . This is one of the reasons I've found I still need to assemble the figures before shipping them because even if a part looks good, it's only when I assemble it that I discover problems I wouldn't have detected otherwise.

New version of StickyBones are fantastic! No poppoing out parts as the initial blue versioni did. I animate all the long and nothing has popped out yet plus looks amazing too! Thanks for the video and yes I agree others here to lower the price to 30-70 at best to get demographic interested. cheers

@@Armaturenine Thanks, the range of motion has improved somewhat as well I'd say but yours goes to the full extant which is plus for you but then again StickyBones goes mostly as far as an ordinary person would and not an athlet in gymnastics 🙂🙂 I commented on another video of yours, I think it was an update of your product and it looks amazing! I like your asthetic as well and I will get them down the line if the cost is a bit favourable for the surviving artist and animator. I appreciate your dedication and its fantastic you've kept going with it for so many years and you will succeed in making them one of the best if not THE best puppet for stop motion experimentations. Thank you.

@@No_Plastic Thanks! So I do have a $50 figure (Rider). I mention that in the video toward the end. It's the one shown me handling at the very beginning. Regarding range of motion SB can't do a sideways reclining pose or even fundamental spine positions (see full video for more)

One of the reasons for it being skeletal is so that artists can put clay or foam over the figure and shape it any way they like. Monster clay works really well.

I feel your A9s have traits that I find to be way better than stickybones. As an action figure collector and animator, I know full well how ball joints can become very loose over time due to plastic creep/wear (especially japanese figures. Ball joints everywhere). Your use of hinges are much more robust. Your ball joints (especially on stress prone areas like legs and spine) are separate parts instead of being fused to a limb piece (easier replacement of parts). Metal bolts allows adjustments when the joints become loose, which is a crucial feature in stop-motion armatures (they need to survive many months of mechanical stress). The articulation on your products are also much better. Your 3d printed plastics might not be as strong as stickybone's, But your workarounds for them, such as the springs, paddings, etc, will very likely allow your armatures to survive much longer. Your armatures have a level of complexity that mass produced items cannot replicate without raising the price sky high. If I were to make a 1 hour+ stop-motion feature film, my first choice would be custom metal fabrication armature, and your armatures would be second. Plus, your armatures have better/more appealing silhouette and proportions for sure.

Overjoyed to hear about planned ankle (and finger!) improvements, since it was one of the things that I had focused in on when I was looking at these mannequins. I may hold off on a purchase until the update, in that case. Thanks for making these, I'm positive it'll really help me in my drawing process. By the way, I was wondering; how come the base doll doesn't come with the improved clavicles?
@Armaturenine
@Armaturenine 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing that! The "classic" variants (Rider and Ranger Classics) used to come with the flexible clavicles but starting this year (v.2024) I decided not to include them and make them optional. One reason was that I wanted to drop the price of the figures overall. Main reason, however, was that I personally prefer the default clavicles because they're more rigid and stable and I find when having to make a decision between range of motion and stability, stability wins imho. This way, I believe, I'm giving customers a better experience (by not including them). In fact, I was so paranoid about this that when I was including them last year I would also include a set of the regular clavicles in the event customers wanted to switch back. Then this started to create a production bottleneck so I decided I'd just not include them at all and make them optional for those customers who really wanted to have that extra range of motion. I think that if at some point I could make them become just as rigid/stable and easier to manufacture, I'd at that point include them by default; not only for classics but for all variants. Who knows, that day may come.

I'm more than happy to send you replacements that will fit your figure (the new feet are much better). @Armaturenine yeah they are kind of green. I'll send you that email for sure! Also knowing that you've been looking into injection molding. Have you considered trying smooth ons molding and casting instead? I use a syringe to inject 2 part liquid plastic into the a silicone mold to make teeth. It hardens in as little as 15 minutes too

@@wreckingball8881 Right on. I'll keep an eye out for that. I'm actually in the process of working on my first silicone molding for my new set of head designs (working on a large series of animals, dragons and dinosaurs). If it goes well I may apply this technique to other pieces as well.

I just want to say we says he is not being biased but you can obviously tell that he is the sticky bones is a great art tool action, figure or collectible whatever but I don’t even know why this guy is talking. I can see how wood can rub against wood and make it smooth and then make this entire character loose. The sticky bones is made with plastic. Also the problem he was talking about from the beginning that honestly might be only going on with the older models, but I have one for myself, and I know for a fact that it does not do that. The stinky bones are nice and sturdy. These are also expensive. They’re literally just wood I could get this from bass pro shop

@Armaturenine

@@Kalebquiles The main difference is size. The more expensive figures are 1:6 scale and the smaller ones are 1:12. Both of these are industry standard conventions, so you can find all kinds of props and costumes online that will fit the figure nicely.
