Arm wrestling, like boxing and MMA, is a sport of styles, technical skill, heart, and strength. It's not just power, and some people don't get that. Brzenk is the best to ever pull, and he still proves that at 48 years of age. Give him time to prepare for an opponent, and he's as tough as they come. Michael Todd is a weight class higher on most occasions, and currently the "face" of American arm wrestling. Yet here in these side sessions, John is absolutely schooling that technique.

The left was never John's best arm because he didn't have to use it the first 15 years of his career. Back then, arm wrestling was a right-handed sport only. Even John himself has said his right is just so much more developed from a strength and technical standpoint because of that.

Pushkar was a tough matchup because he is a big guy with a strong top roll that he tries to flash at the start. Usually to beat a strong top roll you should go for the hook and tire the toproller out and then go for the triceps press, but you should never try to hook a bigger guy normally the smaller man will lose if there is a big difference in weight. That is what made Pushkar unique as he was a big guy that liked to toproll instead of what normal big guys like to do which is hook and or triceps press their opponents.

This was right after Larratt had destroyed Pushkar with the left, and the latter still had the energy to pin the GOAT with ease. This alone tells you how freaking strong Larratt was at that point. I wish that version of him would've faced Denis.

One probably shouldn't take too much from this kind of after-fight practice, but it does look like Brzenk knows how to neutralize M. Todd's defensive rotation.

You could clearly see that John was exhausted before he wrestled pushkar, if he were at 100% he would have probably shown a better match

Agree here. He's a brilliant technical fighter. Like you said, if you watch the first match before they used straps John came back from a losing position against Voevoda and almost beat him before their hands slipped. I don't know why John decided to use hook after that. My point was you shouldn't be defensive against prime Voevoda -- you should immediately go on the offensive.

okey I see what you mean! Im sure you know many thinks he is a cheater(using his joint lock) but he says in an interview he stops the hit with his bicep just before it hits the joint. and also what I discovered and what I think a lot of people don't realise is that he must have a harder time training his right arm with that restricted movement! you know he can't fully extend or contract his bicep or tricep wich will result in a weaker muscle but thats just my opinion!

John could if he had used toproll on voevoda. Voevoda in one video said, that John made a mistake to compete with him in hook.

Have you ever armwrestled a supermatch before? Yes your arm gives out. Espically after cooling down. Todd is not a practice puller my friends practice with him.

True but not many people have that kind of hand strength. It's always been a key part of John's game that he has a huge strong hand. He can neutralise a puller's entire arm through his hand alone. A lot of the other top pullers could do the same to Todd though. Devon already slaughtered him. I think Tim Bresnan would destroy Todd as well.

Stronger or as strong as Michael is. For example, Tim was far atronger than him, but, and this is the new MIchael, he uses his lock snd you just can finish him, three centimetres away from pinning.

Yes, totally agree. What do you thin a man is caoming close to this sport thinks when he see Michael performing like this. HIs elbow is usually three centimetres or more up from the pad, the referees can see this better than me cause they are nearer, but they just do nothing. I have nothing against the old Todd, but this new Todd is as you say putting armwrestling into question. For me, it would be simple and neat: It is not permittied to armwretle in such nasty way.

I wish more people were as wise as you two. People just assume Voevoda was some unbeatable monster. He was great, and very powerful, but he was a bit of a one-trick-pony (i.e. hook and roll). He had the power to usually pull it off, but Bagent beat him right handed before using an incredible early side pressure maneuver, and then crushed him 6-0 on the left side. John Brzenk could beat a prime Voevoda, he just made a poor choice in trying the hook. Plus his arm was injured in the 95kg finals.

Even Tokarev seemed to be as strong or even stronger than him.

Michael Todd's elbow lock does undeniably help him, but he is still one of the top pullers. If he can get into a shoulder press then there's not a lot that's going to stop him. He really can't go inside at all though.
