I learned how to cove with inlaid vinyl in 1963 when I was 13 yo. with a pattern or without a pattern . Armstrong Santa Cruz, Coronelle, Montina, Palestra, and so on. My first installation was a small bathroom. We used a boot corner then we changed to a v corner. Armstrong introduced a circular saw to cut long seam but they discontinued it.

My bathroom is like this one but they never bloody welded anything apart from one small angled joint in an exterior corner, no seams where the wall vinyl overlapped the floor at the bottom just bare joins! Mine is shoddy and it's taken me 15 years to see how the job is supposed to be done when I watched this video. Mate I'm quite brassed off to tell you the truth. It wasn't you blokes though. This guy was a pleasure to watch skills top notch.

Prefit V plug corners are built 1" wide at the bottom and fold around leaving 1/2" overlap for the sheet install. So much easier and cleaner. The floor snaps underneath and holds firm into former. Inside corners are cut last minute for accuracy and 1/2 way down the former. No more misses, gaping holes to fill with weld. Sandbag the drain because it will pop loose during cure time. Armstrong adhesives are the most installer friendly. Other mfgs are nightmarish... some require full sandbag to keep bubbles away. Especially along walls, where pressure into cove stick yields bubbles in floor. 27yr certified installer.

45 yrs as an installer where i live we do not use metal corners. The hospital medical inspectors will not permit it. Never use contact adhesive, use 4.5 inch double face tape on the cove, much like the tape used on Nora stair treads, never had a failure. Never put glue on the cove stick ,as it will lead to vertical bubbles if the flooris not flat enough or there is an imperfect wall. Armstongs adhesives are good but not the end all and be all and their two sided trowel is excellent. Btw the room he is installing is a room especially built for this video so he does have perfect conditions and he never is shone making a mistake of any kind. As our apprentice instructor told me "any asshole can do it right the first time, you will become a good installer when you can fix the mistakes you will invariably make" It would be more usefull to see him on a real job dealing with real conditions and making the real small mistakes we all make

When I do wall cladding with vinyl running up the wall as well, I put mini coformer up the internal of the walls, makes welding in the corners easy and you can do in one go.

I note the internal corner demonstrated shows the join right in the corner. Is more up to date practice to use a slanted V cut for an internal corner?

If the wall and floor vinyl are both 2mm thickness would you use a U shape groove between the wall seams as apposed to a V groove for the welding channel?

Armstrong AUS do you have any updated method videos? DO you have any installation courses in Australia? Im trying to move from vinyl plank/carpet to commercial vinyl. But there is no where in Australia to gain those skills (without doing a whole new apprenticeship, which simply cant happen with kids and morgage) Im legitimately considering flying to the UK to one of their training facilites.

I'm considering having something like this done, but worry in case of burst pipes, etc in the future. How does one get access to things beneath?

That is called a shower room …not a wet room . In a wet room the floor is shaped to run toward the drain ..in a shower room the area around the shower is shaped to run toward the drain .

I see no cove former on the wall internal corners. Is this an option?
@ArmstrongFlooringANZ

Cove fillet in the vertical corner can be an option, depends on specification (and the installer).

Hi Jim, the cove base is Armstrong PVC cove fillet, comes in 15m rolls and is installed using a contact adhesive to form a supportive radius for the floor sheet. Info available from Armstrong Australia here www.armstrong-aust.com.au/commflrpac/en-au/flooring.asp/flooring-accessories/_/N-1z141mm

@ArmstrongFlooringANZ

Heat and roll all edges and joins of the sheet to set the vinyl to the adhesive and assist in welding.

Are all Armstrong sheet vinyl floors suitable for a wet room?
@ArmstrongFlooringANZ
@ArmstrongFlooringANZ 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Lu, most Armstrong homogeneous or heterogeneous sheet vinyl products would be suitable for use in wet areas (subject to appropriate floor preparation), in Australia the overriding criteria is meeting appropriate slip resistance results to AS4586 for the specified application. (Other countries may have similar statutory requirements).

Thank you for your comment, a ring and clamp waste where the vinyl is folded into the waste and clamped with the ring/grate is standard for this type of application.
