I can tell you, I never saw the Evil Dead movies before I saw Army of Darkness (Uncle had it on bootleg Cassette and I was 11 at the time) frankly you can guess my confusion when I finally saw the movies proper at 23! The "abridging" of the previous events left me fucking confused! Especially Evil Dead 2 (As I saw characters I didn't even KNOW existed because the intro for this one only talked about his girlfriend!) Even the ORIGNAL ending of Evil Dead 2 was confusing (As again, I watched that movie with THIS ONE in mind!) The intro made it look like the Evil summoned the portal to suck him in! Instead of what ACTUALLY happened! (But then I just put it down to "Ash" abridging shit!) Still a great trilogy LOL

@@The-Deadite Yeah Ash vs Evil Dead pretty much goes with Evil Dead 1 as Ash is accused in his hometown of killing his sister and friends (Ashy Slashy) but the events of Evil Dead 2 which is Evil Dead 1 revisioned is also canon so that means Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness is also canon! I mean I have to assume Chet is the same Chet he was telling the events of Army of Darkness to at the end of the movie (but then the ending of that movie, not the "I slept too long" one is also up to debate) I noticed as good at horror and horror Comedy Sam Reimi can be. He's SHIT with Continuity (Every new Evil Dead kind of contradicts itself, ESPECIALLY in their beginnings being WAY different then how they were shown in the "Stinger Endings!" As Evil Dead 2 begins with an abridged version of what happened retconning everyone BUT Ash's GF being up in the cabin with him up till the Evil/Demon possessed him at the end of Evil Dead 1, that movie's twist ending! And Army of Darkness pretty much IGNORED alot of Evil Dead 2 final act to only show the part where Ash got dragged into the past and where he landed and how he got "taken captive" is different) I noticed this in his movies despite loving them (ESPECIALLY in Multiverse of Madness. Small or Big Budget, it's ALWAYS noticeable! Good thing for Sammy boy your engaged enough to barely notice it, though it IS noticeable)

Evil dead one belonged to one studio so they could not make a direct sequel to that so they remade it( because they had name rights!!) . By army of darkness the evil dead 2 owner wasn’t allowing them to use footage so they reshot it with different actors, same goes for ash vs evil dead! I mean the guy did as much as he could for us with what he was able to use! And I don’t mind these series of films be this way! It’s good to have such a very different series, and that’s why it’s so unique. Even Ash himself is different in each movie. In first he’s just a guy, in second he’s a survivor who goes nuts. In third he’s an ego centric idiot and in the series he’s a goofball. I love it

Nope it's not, confirmed by upcoming tv show which uses clips from it, the beginning is just a recap of the first movie with linda.the part where ash is sent flying is where the movie turns into a sequel, only the first 5 minutes are a retelling of the first film, and that was only done because copyright, Sam Raimi originally wanted to include footage from first movie. Also, Bruce Campbell and co even said it's not a remake. Which I'm happy about, to know that the first movie isn't null and void in continuity and stuff.

Alastarsblade That is a topic that's been debated back and forth for years, and even Rami himself has given multiple excuses for why things ended up the way they did. So if it's officially been considered a true sequel, that's news to me. I'm waiting until the first season has finished to watch it. Even still... ED2 was made as a movie that could not use clips from the previous movie for legal reasons. That's one reason Rami had to reshoot a beginning. Rami has also said in the past that in ED2 he made the movie he wanted to make in the first place (basically admitting that the first 7 minutes were a retcon of the first movie, and ED2 is it's own movie). That said, regardless of any clip-bashing in the new series, the original films do not make enough sense side-by-side to cut together. Even watching them side-by side in a playlist is like watching two versions of the same premise.

I'm a middle school teacher and two years ago I got into trouble by my vice principal for showing Freedom. After that I was told I could only show PG-13 or under. Freedom is rated R, not sure why, but only has some violence and a little bad lanague, so I didn't really think of it when I picked it out. Fast forward to the day before Winter Break and it's a free day and the kids want to watch a movie. So I go on Hulu and see that Scary Movie 3 is rated PG-13. Totally not appropriate movie to show in school, but it's PG-13 and below, so it qualified!

+Bobby Bernard ...when and where? Actually according to Sam he didn't... in fact originally Sam left the ending ambiguous on purpose. Little known fact... the original working title for EVIL DEAD 2 was 'EVIL DEAD 2: Bruce Campbell vs The Army of Darkness' Also... check 'The EVIL DEAD: Companion'. EVIL DEAD 2 was not a remake... that misconception is based on budget cuts forced on Sam by Dino De Laurentiis. In fact... the original plan for the opening flashback was to use footage from the original film but they didn't have the rights and couldn't get permission to use the footage. Sam then planned to play Scotty in the flashback... I know this because I have the Sam Raimi as Scotty puppet for the un-filmed meltdown. But Bruce tells the story in 'If Chins Could Kill' and it is well documented in 'The EVIL DEAD Companion'. I've know Bruce and Sam since before they filmed 'Within the Woods' and one thing I can tell you is Bruce says a lot of stuff at conventions... and never gives straight answers to fans regarding the EVIL DEAD films... But if you skip the opening 7 minutes of ED2... which is the flashback, you can actually cut directly from the ending of ED to ED2 and it plays as a single movie without any continuity errors...

Can't believe I'm saying this, but... it... actually did happen already. In Comic book form. 'Marvel Zombies VS Army of Darkness'. Ash shows up in the Marvel Zombies verse via portal in the sky/falling on his face typical entrance and proceeds to kick some ass, with the Necronomicon being there and all. By John Layman and illustrated by Fabiano Neves and Sean Phillips.

In evil dead 2, when the pumpkin head appears (the giant face thingy) it scares Ash so badly that it turns part of his hair white. Not joking. :P

i watched it again and laughed my but off when it happened.

I found that it has been described as "Locked into stangeness" where an "accident" of sorts would leave it's mark on a person, this particular seen where Ash look at the Tree abomination, he is so scared his hair turns inexpicably white (something similar to this happened also in the original Nightmare on Elm street when Nancy confronts Freddy)

It's actually really funny, if you look close when the evil is manifested into the forest, Ash gets so scared that a little stop motion gray patch pops up in his hair and the flowers behind him wilt.

Sam Raimi isn't known for his continuity.

Well, the real reason was that from ED1 to ED2, they changed production companies so they couldn’t get the rights to ED1 footage for ED2. Then, during production of ED2 Sam Raimi wanted to have Ash go back in time and essentially do what happens in AoD (though probably would have been different), but due to budget/time constraints they had to just leave the time travel portion as a cliff hanger to ED2. This next bit is just conjecture but I wager Raimi probably didn’t get to end it the way he wanted so he decided to start semi-fresh with AoD so he retconned the ending of ED2 a little so he could tell the story he intended.

The _Evil Dead II_ ending got retconned out of existence.

The ending got retconned. You see, with these movies, they had trouble acquiring the rights to their own films. Evil Dead 2 couldn’t show flashbacks to the first one, and Army of Darkness didn’t have the rights to Evil Dead 2. The show Ash vs Evil Dead also wasn’t allowed to reference of Army of Darkness. Basically, the whole series has very loose continuity
