to be fair, TAP never said the "thickness" of the paint was consistent across the range. they said the COVERAGE was. and it is. lighter colors that are meant for highlighting having a thicker consistency isn't new and even citadel layer paints are like this. it's so you have more control over thinning. AP knocked it clean out of the park with these especially stacked against their old paints.

Ive been painting over 30+ years. The fanatic range are no different from other hobby acrylics. They all require thinning and it depends on pigment. I use Ak and Pro acryl and some of these paint are much thicker than others in the same range also coverage is different too. The fanatic range is a great set. It like all new paints will have its gremlins to get Used to. I commission paint and the tracking on these will make my work much easier. I got the full range and the back of the box has the full range. Also you can download a pdf or just use the free booklet has all the paints.

If you got so much experience I shall dare to ask you a question that keeps bothering me... I started painting minis again with speedpaints and now I want to go for a bit more traditional approach. I mainly paint boardgames and got tons of minis to paint, so I am thinking about a mix of using speedpaints and sketching some highlights with normal acrylics. The most important parts of the minis I want to use more advanced techniques like a bit of layering, glazing and edge-highlighting. So I need some normal acrylics. Do you think getting the mega set is a good deal? Or should I rather handpick colors which are more suited for highlights etc? I got an beginners/intermediates understanding of color theory but still...the world of acrylic paints can be a bit overwhelming when you just come from traditional drawing and only coloring artworks digitally. :D The full set looks awesome but is total overkill for a beginning hobby painter like me...also I cant afford to spend that much on paints without risking my life if you know what I mean. :D

@reuterss306 the mega set is a good buy tbh but it's limited in colours you may need for highlighting. I would either wait for the AP to release singles or I'd go down the route of AK Interactive 3rd gen. You can get colour sets with 6 colours for about £15. I would say they are prob slightly better than AP Fanatics. I have over 500 paints. I got the full set as I commission paint so the full set triad system makes it easier to track paint jobs without mixing colours. They are great paints but defo require more thinning than the AK or Pro Acryl range.

heck yeaaaa. Are they ready to use for the Airbrush! I see some nice tones in there that i kinda like. that entire line of blue paint that gradually turns to a turqoise. LMK how these are!

They definitely need to be thinned down

I agree, I have the complete set and I painted orc head bottle toppers for each colour and I can confirm it seems the last 2-3 paints in each 6 triad are thicker with the 6th paint being the worst. I need to find a thinner ratio to use on them. Was thinking about trying the warpaint stabilizer as well to see how well it thins.
