TO NEW PLANT-LOVING VIEWERS: I am not a plant expert and do not claim to be one! I run a beauty and lifestyle channel, but really enjoy tending to plants in my home, and my subscribers had asked to see a little tour of my houseplants :) Please don't place your expectations of planty-perfectionism on this video! I may not know all the names of my plants, but I love them all the same, and they still bring me a lot of joy, and that's what matters! I absolutely appreciate being informed of the names of those I'm unsure of, as it helps me learn, but please don't be a wet blanket :) If you're feeling annoyed at my plant-ignorance, go tend to your own plant babies as I'm sure they'll make you feel better haha x

I have been so caught up in life that I forgot how I love plants. The pandemic slowed me down and one day I was sitting in my living room it hit me what my life and house was missing. Greenery. I took a cutting from a plant at work as well as an orchid I had at work that was given to me and brought them home. I instantly felt better. Plants are definitely therapeutic.

I try to write short messages but they end up too long. Feel like I could “talk” with you for hours! I have a plant that belonged to someone i knew as a child. He passed away decades ago. His mother kept his plant alive. His sister gave me some of the plant clippings. A living plant that honors someone who has passed. I think there is beauty in that.

The plant in your bathroom is a Peperomia Obtusifolia, or " American baby rubber plant". And the one that looks like your arrowhead is a "pixie arrowhead". ❤ I haven't found one of those yet but I found my Obtusifolia in the grocery store, of all places, just before the virus went crazy. Mine has only been with me about a month and has new shoots on the stems! I am so excited! I love Jonathon. You'll have to give him a hello for me! My girls were impressed that yours grows just as crazy as mine. Hope you and Alex are doing well! Lots of love from Florida! 💖

Last week discussing life/plants/perfectionism with a friend after I burned the leaves of a perfect succulent. I decided then that perfection can’t be sustained and the attempt to do so, stresses me. Then realized I enjoy propagating plants from cuttings and raising them and watching them grow. Sometimes I bring home cast off branches i pick up at a garden center, leaves that would otherwise end up in the waste bin. I counted and realized I had over 60 little plants! Wait, is that why they’re called “nurseries”? Nursing little leaves into mighty plants. Hmm

Once a plant has rooted in water it can still be transferred to soil. Many of the water roots will die back or branch into soil roots. The succulent you had was a low light haworthiopsis hence why he didn't like the full sun aspect. Looked very thirsty too. Good luck with your collection. It's great!

I strongly suggest reading on gardening for kids learning. While it is messy, having something like a small pot of cherry tomato plant project when they're around 4+ yo can teach a ton about where food comes from, how long it takes, how to appreciate the work gone into it, and of course how to care for something that requires maintenance. Gardening as a mental health benefit is also very researched topic. It doesn't mean you need an acre of space, just a couple pots by the window are enough.

I thought the same. I have twin three year olds. Becoming a plant mom was the best thing I’ve done this year. It really helps your house feel more relaxing and it relaxes me to care for them. I even have poisonous plants in my bedroom. I tell my sons that they are my babies and not touch them but to look at them. They love them and help me repot the others. And the help outside with the garden. I love it. But I still say no to pets lol.

Haha, oh gosh, one of my kitties loves eating plants too 😅 I’ve found though that he will leave succulents and plants with thicker leaves alone for the most part. I’ve also been growing him cat grass and he’ll go for that!

Morgan Baldwin Miller get them cat grass! That really helped with my two plant eaters. Apparently if they’re eating your plants they’re craving greens and cat grass is good for them. Most pet stores sell pre-grown ones or you can get seeds and they grow super quick

Birdsnest ferns loveeee potassium! Think banana peels. Chop them up into tiny pieces and pop them in the centre of the plant. Goood stuff xx You could also make a tea out of the banana peels, let it cool and water with that 💜💜

Hey just a plant tip. You don’t have to collect rain water, just get your tap water and let it sit on the counter for 2-10 days depending on what time frame you have and the water will oxidize and the chemicals from the water will slowly evaporate. Also if you put a bucket under your shower head when you turn it on and the water is heating up, you can catch that water and it will also reduce waist because you aren’t letting the water go down the drain

The haworthia doesn't like too much sun, but if moved a little further from the window it'll recover quite easily. I love the beautiful display of your plants, very nice pots. And thumbs up for not buying bottled water for plants!

Your Peacock Plant (fyi it's called a Calathea Makoyana) did not have a pest making its leaves sticky. That was a watering issue. Most people waaaaay overwater or underwater these plants, but they really just need to dry out to about 70% between waterings. If this was getting too dry, then saturated, you'd get the sticky leaves. Just an fyi. Also, "Devil's Ivy" = Pothos (or more properly Epipremnum).

The one next to the monstera is a Pothos N'Joy, and maybe next to that is a Peperomia Perciliata? Need close ups. Corner of your bathroom is a variegated Peperomia Obtusifolia. The arrowhead plant in the mug is definitely a Syngonium Pixie, just a smaller version of the syngonium you have in the bedroom. The devil's ivy lookalike is a Philodendron Hederaceum. The ferns you have in your bedroom and on the little Kmart shelf in the stairwell are Boston Ferns. I love your plant decor!!!

What a fascinating video. I love plants but can only manage to keep a couple alive. I have a ginormous yukka which I’ve had for about 15 years, a cactus garden with 4 little cacti in the bathroom and I also have a peace lily. My peace Lilly does really well in a bright spot . I. Live in the uk so it’s never warm and I literally water him (like a large jugs worth of water) only when he begins to flop . Not sure if that helpful but I think they can take a lot of water but don’t like to have constant wet or moist soil . I have bought dozens of ferns and they don’t like me haha.. but I’m going to rewatch this and pick up some tips from you as your a fern master. Out side I have at least 30 different plants in various pots as I don’t have a garden. And I have a Christmas tree, which was given to me by my mum . He’s decorated with outdoor decorations all year round. I have painted trinkets or though chose things that would work . And I’m going to have to make a move and do something with him as he’s becoming pot bound and I want him to live on . I have a nightmare but love affair with sunflowers also , and I plant seeds with my daughter every spring .. I then spend the next 6 months picking them up when the wind and rain blows them around our back yard. My yard is my happy place , along with my make up collection 😍xx

I remember my aunt husband had told me if you choose an elephant with trunk up or down curled but not trunk down out you choose the right elephant to display indoor as fengshui positive sources I’m not sure about but that what I remember. So if I see elephant statues that words always came out from my mind😀 I’m just saying.. I like your decoration of you plants 🌱 ♥️

I think the peace lily in the bathroom is making green flowers because it doesn’t get enough light. They usually make green flowers to create more room for chlorophyll (to absorb more light).

My husband is the green thumb in our family and I only got interested in plants 🌱 in the last year. My favorite is a Christmas cactus 🌵 which has the most incredible bright pink double blooms right now. It’s only supposed to bloom around Christmas time but this plant blooms at least 2 times a year🙈 You have a beautiful selection of plants and they do bring us joy and now with the quarantine love my plants even more💝 Thanks for sharing 🌱🌵🌹

I have no idea if this would be of any interest to you, but an art therapy classmate recently posted a directive for us to try that involved leaves. You get leaves of different sizes and shapes and put a thin piece of paper on top. You then take the paper off of a crayon or pastel, turn it horizontally and lightly rub it across the page. The shape of the leaf and the pattern of veins wind up printed on the paper. It's really cool! You can also experiment with using different colors to color different sections of the leaves. Thought maybe it would give you something creative and different to do.

I can also relate to the idea of caring for something else being wonderful for mental health! During a period of severe depression, my parents let me get a pair of guinea pigs. They have helped me recover so well! Caring for them brings me so much joy. They are silly, smart, loving little creatures that are full of personality. My first two had health issues that were totally out of my control (birth defects and a brain tumor, respectively), but the one I have now is an older rescue guinea pig. She's estimated to be about 4 years old, and she was found wandering around a local park. She had health issues that required surgery, but she recovered beautifully and is basically a brand-new piggie.

I love love loved this video! Your plants are gorgeus and you sounded so happy talking about them. I also got into plants in 2018 and now I have 16 of them. I've definitely learned a lot and it hasn't always been easy since I live in Finland and in winter, there's literally no sunlight and we have to use artificial lights. But I've managed to get (some of) my plants to thrive. Monstera, devil's ivy and rubber plant are my faves, too. 💚 It's not hard to stay indoors nowadays because my plants bring me so much joy. 😊
