Jean Petit was a Occitan doctor who was beaten during a revolt against the nobility around 1640. That's why he "dances", actually, he writhes in pain.

@Sir77Hill2 ай бұрын

+everheart66 What's the dark origin?
@everheart669 жыл бұрын
+Juan Pablo Mendoza Lizcano, what I could read here in the comments in French, originally, this song is a torture song from the Medieval Ages. In those dark ages, they used to punish criminals by tieing them to a wheel, break al his bones with a big hammer, starting with the fingers, and then tie his hands and legs to 4 horses, and make them pull the person in four pieces to finish it off.

+everheart66 Well if that can help you, last studies seems to say its about the local " king "Jean II exiled in London, dancing (litteraly) while the poor people of Occitania (probably Aquitaine) was left alone

To all the people that saw it during french class, it is actually an song from occitania, the south of France, and in a different language: occitan. The language is the root to French, spanish and portuguese and is still spoken in some places in the south of France. The song is about Jean Petit that has been tortured because he led a revolution against the king, and his members were beaten one after the other, that's why Jean Petit is "dancing" with his different members. What a funny song isn't it ?

Yeah!This song is amazing to teach body parts! We French people can have great fun singing about the body parts of a guy being tortured and each part "dancing" as it is disjointed and broken.
