“He must be drunk” I laughed to myself. Thank you Arne for your off the cuff conversations! I remember at the very beginning of these podcasts you didn’t talk much but boy am I glad you found your voice. I love how Carlos tries to keep the conversation train on track while Arne has so many stories to tell. The view from the window is gorgeous. And I love your drapes. I appreciate your instructions on how to gauge, block, etc. Your advice is so simple and it WORKS! I have spent alot of money on different designers’ videos on knitting in the past and your advice is the best. Us Americans tend to make everything difficult😎.The crocheted doiles are beautiful. Some of the work you showed is what my grandmother called tatting. She put her doilies on the arms of her furniture and for the headrest on chairs.

I love what Arne says…”If you love to knit…you don’t care if you have to unravel”….true that! Thank you for endorsing the common sense approach on blocking a gauge swatch ?? I’ve never understood this advice…New knitters don’t always understand this makes little sense I truly appreciate your ole school traditional knitting ways…thank you!
@Stettafire
@Stettafire 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, I think the strange advice on blocking is a product of people learning from the Internet and just echoing what they hear rather then learning and teaching from learned experience why something is good or bad. I learned from my Mum who learned from her Mum etc, etc. I dare say I'm a little biased towards the traditional approach :P

Agree! And the only time I block my gauge swatch is when I knit on my knitting machine - the fabric gets quite distorted from that, and it's necessary only for that situation.

My maternal grandmother's three sisters (my great-aunts) would come to visit her every summer in Charleston SC, where my family including my grandmother lived. I always enjoyed their visits, as each one had her own way of going. Great Aunt Manie always brought her silver tatting shuttle, and I was fascinated watching her make yards and yards of lace. I called her shuttle a "fish", because it looked like one and fishing was Aunt Manie's favorite pastime. My grandmother was a professional seamstress, and she would use Manie's lace on some of the collars, pillow cases, and table linens she made.

I can't see wait to see what you do with your family's doilies and linens Carlos! Many times I have wanted to "rescue" lovely small knit items from thrift stores and I have thought that there *must* be a way to repurpose them in a way that still shows their beauty. I love seeing how you repurpose items - more of this please! So important as we think about reducing consumption and bringing back value to items that already exist in the world. My Mum collected together a lot of old family doilies and tablecloths that had been embroidered by my grandma/great grandma. She made them into a light pair of curtains for her craft room.... Those beautiful small lace doily's are called tatting. It's so much work to create and a craft that is dying, which is sad. I'm excited to see what you create. Most of the old pieces I have are either stained or torn and I don't have the talent to repair them. I've been decluttering a lot , so some were donated, but I kept quite a few of them, so maybe I'll steal your ideas when you present them. The view of your snow dusted lake and forested mountain area in the background is gorgeous. The water is like a mirror reflecting everything, so much so it looks unreal or like a photo, but obviously it's not. Your are so lucky to live with those beautiful surroundings. I'm glad you were able to restore the old train station building. I'm sure it was a lot of work, but to me it's looks worth it.

I think the name of the game is “Sit and WAIT for a Bit!” It’s so hard to do that, isn’t it? Whatever you decide to do-live sit and knit, knitting cruises, a new yarn line-your Arne & Carlos family will gladly take that journey with you! We love you, Arne and Carlos! The scenery outside the window is just beautiful. It's better than a postcard. Soothes the heart and soul. I could sit and knit and stare at that view all day.....sigh. Stinky fish...I'm with Arne. That's a big no on salty, stinky fish and anchovies. Ugh. And what's with locked stairways in America? I'm not sure. But I'm not a fan of elevators either. Claustrophobic and stairs are far better exercise anyway. I think a Sit and Knit for a bit Live Tour would be fun! And I think you need a stowaway who travels light :-) You two are so adorable.
