It's my birthday today. Because I'm 100% alone, it's always a totally depressing day. When Arnold started to cuddle Lee on the hotel bed it made me smile so much, really for the first time today. Thank you so much for bringing a little happiness into my life! You're a wonderful man.

When Arnold ran to snuggle with you on the bed the tears flowed. All he wanted was to be loved and you, Lee, were the best person to give him that!

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly these traumatized dogs immediately understand you are there to help them. And to give them all the love and attention they deserve. I sound like a broken record, but Lee Asher you have a gift beyond measure. And being even a minuscule part of the Asher family gives my often difficult life more joy than you might imagine. In that respect I KNOW I'm not alone 💜

Hi Lee, I mentioned to you a few months back that I applied for and was accepted as a Volunteer with the RSPCA (your SPCA equivalent) to foster lost and abandoned dogs - something you and your work inspired me to do. After training and passing certain necessary qualifications I am about to receive my first foster dog. A seven year old Staffordshire Cross whose owner recently passed away. Apparently the dog is fretting the loss and the RSPCA are concerned the dog may give up on life while residing in a pen and needs to be placed in a loving home environment urgently. I do the meet and greet later this week and provided the foster gets along ok with my own dog (a Cavador, named Chesnut), which I have no doubt that they will get along fine, I will bring my first foster dog home and give it the loving home environment it needs. While I do not have the wide open spaces that you have, I do live opposite a lake with a large park which I hope will be as much fun and exercise the foster as it is for Chesnut. I will keep the foster for as long as it takes to find the little guy his forever home - (failing that - I am sure that I will no doubt keep him). But, I wanted to let you know, if it wasn't for you, I never would have thought to do this and I really look forward to whatever the future brings. Thank you!

My husband and I just lost our 13-yo Shar Pei this week. :( This video made me both smile and cry. Liam (our Shar Pei) was also a rescue and came to us at 5-yo weighing 23 pounds because he was being starved and left out in the weather. We miss him so badly, but we decided that we would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Their happiness is worth the world and you bring so many so much happiness. Thank you.

I got my girl, Cleo 5 years ago now. I genuinely felt so bonded and connected with her that I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to attach easily to other pets. My dogs Blue and Jake, large mixed breeds, are rescues in NYC. My Vet on west 72nd street was new to cancer in dogs, and I had just seen my boyfriend die from carcinoma, which caused swelling. Most people associate cancer with being skinny. I had put my dog on a diet, and we both lost weight, so I was surprised when she saw blue and was upset at her size. I knew she had lost like 8 pounds. I immediately knew that she was carrying a cancer tumor, that had weight. She was also swollen, and I knew that she needed a cancer blood draw. The vet said I was crazy and paranoid, and I had to demand it be done. The blood draws cost $350.00, and came back positive for bone cancer, in every inch of her. I had to fight off the vet's offer of chemo and radiation. I knew that I had the POWER TO GIVE HER A BEAUTIFUL LIFE, IN MY ARMS, AND SHE WAS GOING TO DIE, IN MY ARMS, UNDER MY CONTROL, NOT A VETS CRAPPY CANCER TORTURE. We lived in a 5-flight walk-up, top floor, 4 flights for Blue at 110 pounds, (she was a rottweiler/Catahoula mix-HUGE DOG), she was in pain, and I could not carry her up and down. One night, she came to my bed, crawled on top of me, stared me in the eyes, and laid her head on my face, as if to say, I AM READY MOMMY, I NEED TO GO, I HURT SO BADY, PLEASE HELP ME, PLEASE MAKE THIS PAIN STOP, PLEASE PROTECT ME, MOMMA. I called the vet at 4 am and made an emergency euthanasia call, appointment. They told me that euthanasia was not an urgent matter, and I had to force the issue and get her seen the same day. The vet ran 1 hour late, and there was no comfortable place to put her down, beyond the floor. I spent that hour on the vet's floor saying over and over, I LOVE MY BLUE, I LOVE MY BLUE, AND THEN, she was gone. SHE DIED IN MY ARMS, I WAS IN CONTROL OF HER SUFFERING, I LOVED HER TILL HER DYING BREATH, and that is why I still rescue the giant breed mixes, with short lives. I know, I will be there, when she dies, and I will be able to say goodbye, my way. Humans do not have this luxury. We do not die with dignity, and or painless deaths. Always remember, that dogs are gods spelled backward and that when they live and die in your arms, you had the privilege of being in ultimate control of their suffering, and their pain and the joy and freedom that comes with that relaxation can carry you through to the next angel in need. When they leave, they never really leave you; they find you the next angel that needs you, and so the cycle goes. The cycle of joy, joy that only dog love knows, and it has no boundaries.
