One perfume can contain up to 300 ingredients. Here is just a partial list, depending on the type of fragrance:
- floral: rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, violet, lily, narcissus;
- citrus fruits: lemon, orange, mandarin, bergamot;
- fruit: apple, pear, mango, apricot, peach;
- spicy: cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, vanilla, ginger;
- coniferous: fir, pine, juniper, cedar;
- woody: patchouli, frankincense, sandalwood, oak moss.
Compositions are composed according to the principle of a triad - there are "initial notes", "heart notes" and "end notes", each of which is revealed at a certain time.
The invariable ingredients of oriental compositions are:
- ambergris, the substance is formed in the digestive tract of sperm whales, the concentration resembles wax. It is used as a fragrance fixative in the manufacture of perfumes, as well as in medicine and homeopathy;
- musk, a concentrated odorous secret produced by the glands of the male musk deer (musky roe deer). It has a characteristic, especially stable aroma, it is used in perfumes as an enhancer of other odors. Natural musk of animal origin is rarely used in the production of luxury perfumes. Technologies for obtaining a similar substance from plants are now available.
