I lived at Allen and Broome streets and remember watching the 2nd Avenue El trains from the BR window. We'd catch the train at Grand St. and ride it all the way up to 149th St to see my father's brother and sister who lived on Bergen and Willis avenues, respectively. We watched its demolition with mixed emotions. Later on, after school, we'd take the 3rd Avenue El from City Hall or South Ferry as far as it would go into the Bronx and then take it back to the Broome St station It was difficult to believe that people could live next to the track in the alley way that the train took in the Bronx.

Wow, this is great. I have been looking for months for a view of second ave looking south from 124th - 122nd. Taino towers were once occupied by brownstone buildings on 123rd 2nd ave. nice. And on minor correction, this is more like 124th street looking down towards second ave. The first building to the right starts on 124th, nonetheless, this is awesome.

the removal of the 2-3 Ave ELs allowed that area to become officially part of the wealthy UES. They needed to be removed in Manhattan, 6th Avenue in Midtown also boomed with them gone.

These pictures are a walk into the past. When the car wasn't king everywhere and people did a lot of walking. The city looks so peaceful.

All that steel sold to Japan to bomb Pearl Harbor. Still no adequate subway replacement for the east side. Thank you mayor Lagiardia

Obviously Mayor LaGuardia didn't ride the El trains. He should have left them alone.

Thank you However he is no longer the president anymore so we must go fourth and put some of these dam elevated lines back in place and stop thinking about what the world needs is what God wants and the people and needs.

There was nothing wrong with the 9th and 2nd Avenue 3rd Avenue elevated lines in the Bronx and Manhattan. It was a waste of money and time. I'm glad that they are almost finished with the second Avenue line.

@@leecornwell1062 The 8 3rd Avenue Elevated line is definitely coming back I'm telling you. The 8 could definitely be put back together again just like they rebuilding the second Ave subway line back up under ground. I know they are definitely making enough room for the 8 3rd Ave Elevated line to be rebuilt between Gun hill road Clearmount Avenue Webster Ave Bronx and Queens plaza connecting to the Flushing 7 line N W trains 🚃 . So this way the 8 trains could stop at 125 connecting to the 4 5 6 Q T and the Metro North railroad. if you ride the N W 7 trains to Queens plaza you will see a extra elevated track frames trestle is completely empty. The 8/10 trains could definitely be the last stop 🛑 at Queens plaza if this Thrid Avenue Elevated line was not be taking down like a dam fool. Robert mosses did not use his brain. Robert mosses was just plan evil . The holly bible says you treat people as you want be be treat on to you.

What a mistake tearing these lines. Down
@leecornwell56329 ай бұрын
Some one could not stand for no extra elevated lines to be the way it is today. They torn the extra elevated lines down on purpose.

That's the reason why they have those 8 signs on the R62AS R62S and the R142/As . The R142As has the old 8 Third Ave Elevated line announcements. God sits high and look low. When they do dirty business God will bring it to pass 😢 God was not pleased of tairing down the all the extra elevated lines down. Thank God for millions and millions and millions of people took photos when they built the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line and taking it down. They can not hide from God almighty. God saw everything what went down. The holly bible saids you treat those as they wanna be treated unto you.
