I've had the pleasure to weld with a older rig welder named Red Laman. He was 73yrs old at the time and that was back in 14.nice guy and full of info.on a side note,my remote burned up while we was on a job togeather and it was our last day.so he had a extra one on his truck.he let me have it and he told me to bring him some catfish. he was wanting some and he knew i had a frezzer full.I'll never forget it.i drove two hrs to his house to deliver that catfish and to shoot the shit about how the hogs was tearing up his yard.he since passed away.

Nice to see the old guys still working. So many people nowadays want to retire young and "go enjoy the rest of their lives while they still can". Or so they say. Andy is out there showing the working man how it's done and still enjoying his life. He's the type of man that helped build this great country that we live in today. There are some younger guys coming up that have the same passion as Andy but they are hard to find these days.

Its always funny to me how the new guys act. I remember feeling like I had to act a certain way. After awhile you realize that as long as you are respectable to other, work hard, and (very important) can take a joke and a ribbing from the other....well, then it can all be pretty enjoyable. I had been around crews for quite awhile when I realized one evening, after being ribbed on most of the day, that the guys were really just messing with me because they actually liked me, but also because I let them get to me sometimes. With that, here is a quick funny story. The next morning a few of the guys started in, and I just smiled and kept working. A little while later they hit me again....and the same happened. So one of the guys said “hey, whats up with you today, did you decide not get bothered?”....I said “no, not really....I just sold him last night”. A couple of the guys were trying to figure out what the heck I was talking about. Then one said “you sold what”. I said “my goat....so that way you cant find him”. They laughed, and never again did the guys get my goat and aggravate me 😂😂😂

This was very interesting for me. My father was a Fitter welder, he worked all over the western US on many pipelines, away from home weeks at a time. Dad tried to teach me how t I weld one time, it was a complete disaster for him, I quickly lost interest, and regretted doing so. But, later in life I chose to give it one more try. It didn't take me long to fall in love with welding and understand my father's passion. Dad plied his trade from Local 250 in Southern CA. Me, I enjoyed a short career in carpentry and finished as a Bricklayer, loving both trades. Dad always stressed the importance of being in a trade union, this I did for ninety percent of my time in construction, thank you Dad, miss you.
